Vocabulary Unit 8 Flushed Away
Animosity The Toad felt nothing but animosity towards rats and mice because his former owner, Prince Charles, had replaced him with a mouse as a pet.
Animosity (n.) strong dislike; bitter hostility
Apathy When Le Frog delayed his search for Roddy and Rita by five hours so that he could eat dinner, it suggested a certain apathy for his mission.
Apathy (n.) a lack of feeling, emotion or interest
Commend Sid commended Roddy s home for its comfort and poshness. In fact, he liked it so much he decided to replace Roddy as the house pet.
Commend (v.) to praise, express approval; to present as worthy of attention; to commit to the care of
Compatible Although they were not very good at their jobs, Spike and Whitey were compatible henchmen who worked very well together.
Compatible (adj.) able to get along or work well together; capable of use with some other model or system
Condolence When Roddy learned what happened to Rita s father, he expressed his condolences.
Condolence (n.) an expression of sympathy
Consecrate Once his owners leave, Roddy consecrates the apartment as his party space.
Consecrate (v.) to make sacred, hallow; to set apart for a special purpose
Decrepit It wasn t such a bad thing that Rita s ship, the Jammy Dodger, was destroyed. It was rather decrepit and in need of repairs.

Quandary After Roddy demonstrated that Rita s ruby was, in fact, fake, she was in a quandary about how to pay for her family.

Recalcitrant Le Toad s recalcitrant henchmen refused to leave until after their five-hour dinner was over.
Recalcitrant (adj.) stubbornly disobedient, resisting authority
Reprisal The Frog sought reprisal after Rita stole the ruby from him.

Revel The rodents reveled in the idea of a victory for England in the World Cup (they lost, as usual).
