  8. MCHD provides Paid Time Off (PTO) and Extended Illness Bank ( EIB ) time to eligible full time and part time employees for periods of time away from work with pay. PTO and EIB benefit time replaces the more traditional Vacation, Holiday and Sick Time.

  9. Employees are responsible for requesting PTO in advance, according to departmental policies and procedures. The employee should discuss with the director/officer of how much PTO time will be used (not to exceed the normal scheduled amount of hours). PTO time not scheduled in advance may be counted as an absence occurrence. Supervisors should give approval or disapproval to the employee as soon as possible upon receiving the request. Ex: An employee who is normally scheduled for 72 hours, can not ask for 8 hours of PTO to make their check 80 hours.

  10. EXCEPTION TO THE RULE PTO may be utilized in lieu of regularly scheduled shifts, not exceeding hours routinely worked during a pay period, excluding overtime. Time worked in excess of an employee s regular schedule will not affect utilization of previously scheduled PTO. MEANING: You were scheduled to be off (PTO day). You were asked to work on a day you are not scheduled to work. This makes your hours be more than what is normally allowed BUT you can still use your PTO.

  11. PTO should not be added or deleted from an employee s time card without a written discussion with the employee. BUT remember your employment status. Full time status: an employee so designated by MCHD and who is normally scheduled to work from 60.0 to 80.0 hours per biweekly pay period. Part time status: an employee so designated by MCHD and who is normally scheduled to work from 40.0 to 59.0 hours per biweekly pay period

  12. DENIAL OF PTO REQUESTS Requests for time/PTO usage may be denied for reasons including but not limited to: Insufficient notice provided by the employee. High demand for time off during a particular period, exceeding the allowable number of employees off simultaneously. If two or more requests are received at the same time, the length of continuous service may be considered. Business needs and staffing requirements that cannot accommodate the absence. Employee s attendance record or excessive previous time off requests. Conflicts with previously approved time off requests by other employees. Employee doesn t have enough PTO to cover the requested day.
