  2. PGI or PDP? Personal Growth and Involvement (PGI) Intended to create the standard of a good Optimist Club member Intended to promote personal growth by getting people involved in club activities

  3. PGI or PDP? Professional Development Program (PDP) Intended to promote professional growth by focusing on marketable skills Focused on skills not growth (First membership activity is at level VII; participate in a membership recruitment Activity)

  5. How do I Choose? Both programs run independently If you have not started PGI it is recommended you start with PDP If you have already started PGI, go ahead and finish. Level 10 is a great accomplishment Progress is not transferrable from one program to the other All PDP tasks must be completed after 10/1/16 (Exception: Prior officer experience can meet some requirements)

  6. Project Management Level 1: Participate in a community service activity Level 2: Serve as a project committee member Level 3: Serve as a chair for a community service or fundraising project and write a report about the project to give to the next chair Level 4: Serve as a Club Foundation Representative or a Club Chair of a Standing Committee Level 5: Create a project plan including a budget for a new community service project and present it to the club Board of Directors Level 6: Create a project plan including a budget for a new fundraising project and present it to the club Board of Directors Level 7: Participate in the organization of a membership recruitment activity Level 8: Serve as a chair of a membership recruitment activity Level 9: Serve as a District Committee member Level 10: Chair a District Committee

Marketing Level 1: Learn how to write a Press Release Level 2: Prepare a Press Release for a specific event Level 3: Learn to use promotional tools (newsletter, outlook, Gmail, Constant Contact ) to market your event Level 4: Market an event using the promotional tools Level 5: Learn to use a form of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn ) Level 6: Market an event using social media Level 7: Learn how to create a short video Level 8: Be part of a team that creates a short video of an event and publish it to social media Level 9: Learn how to develop a marketing strategy and plan Level 10: Create a marketing strategy and plan for a club or District project or program

Continuous Improvement Level 1: Give a short presentation on How Optimism Can Make A Better World or Optimism As A Way Of Life Level 2: Make a short presentation at a Club meeting about why a prospective member should join your club Level 3: Complete an Optimist Skills Module of your choice and schedule a presentation of the skill at an Optimist Club or other meeting Level 4: Present the Continuous Improvement Optimist Skills module Level 5: Complete a second Optimist Skills module Level 6: Educate a new member on the purposes and benefits of an Optimist Club and Optimist International to our children, our community and ourselves Level 7: Serve on the club Board of Directors, or as a Club officer Level 8: Complete a third Optimist Skills module Level 9: Complete a fourth Optimist Skills module Level 10: Attend a regional leadership development conference or three training seminars/workshops at District meetings or three workshops at the International Convention

Organizational Knowledge & Culture Level 1: Learn the five purposes of an Optimist Club Level 2: Know Optimist International, District, Zone and Club Structures Level 3: Make a presentation to your club on the history of Optimist International (Should use Of Dreams and Deeds available online as a resource) Level 4: Know the Officers of OI, District, and Club (OI President, OI Vice President District Governor, Zone Lt. Governor and Club President Level 5: Recite (by memory) the Optimist Creed Level 6: Make a presentation on a program promoted by your Club, District or Optimist International Level 7: Make a presentation at a Club or Zone meeting about the District meeting or International Convention you attended Level 8: Make a presentation at a membership recruitment activity, Zone or District Meeting about Optimist International Level 9: Make a Club or Zone presentation on behalf of a District Committee Level 10: Conduct the Skills Development module Orientation to Optimism for New Members at a Club. Zone or District Meeting

  10. Communication Skills Level 1: Introduce a new Member or a guest at a Club meeting/activity Level 2: Write a brief description of a favorite Club project and submit it for either the Club newsletter or Club website/Facebook page Level 3: Contact a Club Member that has been missing from Club meetings and events and offer to bring them to the next activity. Check with Club President first Level 4: Attend a Zone Meeting or visit another Club s meeting and share what is happening with your club Level 5: Make a presentation at another Club s meeting, a Zone meeting or other Community organization regarding a Club Service Project that your club does Level 6: Attend a District Meeting as a Club Representative Level 7: Submit a minimum 250 written words about an upcoming Club event to either the District website or District Bulletin Level 8: Develop a presentation about a club project and present it at a meeting Level 9: Provide training regarding District Leadership, District project or an Optimist Skills module to a group outside your club Level 10: Be part of the team that builds a new Club. Must attend 1 informational meeting and the Org. mtg

  11. Tracking Progress All club level activities are certified by the club president or Secretary/Treasurer All District Level activities are certified by the Governor, District Secretary/Treasurer, District Leadership Development Chair, District PDP chair or Lt. Governor Forms available on the Optimist website for tracking

  12. Success! Achievement of Level 10 will be recognized with a Certificate of Completion of the Optimist Professional Development Program

  13. What now? There are three advanced levels of the PDP Each must be completed consecutively Each must be completed in a twelve month period Each level will have a pin associated with it

Bronze PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Serve on a District Growth Committee (Membership, NCB, LD & Club Fitness) MARKETING: Promote strategy chosen by Committee above CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Asses your year on District Growth committee and report recommendations for continuous improvement in District growth. ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE & CULTURE: Recruit 3 new members in a single Optimist Year. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Present this Growth committee strategy to District Executive Committee or Board of Directors. CERTIFICATION: All activities in this level must be registered/certified by the, District Secretary, or District Governor as appropriate in the Member s Passport.

  15. Silver PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Create and lead a team to build a New Club MARKETING: Create a marketing strategy to recruit a group of members for the new club CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Work with District Club Fitness advisor to develop a plan to administer the New Club Follow-up program within 90 days of Club being built. ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE & CULTURE: Become a Builder of Excellence COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Informing and Instructing the community about the structure and importance of a New Club using diverse communication tools. Must use 2 different methods of communication. (Social media, Informational meetings etc.) CERTIFICATION: All activities in this level must be registered/certified by the. Governor, District Secretary, or District Governor as appropriate in the Member s Passport.

  16. Gold PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Serve as the District PDP Chair, District Club Fitness Advisor Chair, or on Leadership Development Committee. MARKETING: Help create and submit an entry for the Reel Optimism video contest. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Initiate the Follow-up plan for the new Club and send a progress report to the District Club Fitness Advisor. ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE & CULTURE: Mentor another Member to achieve PDP level X COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Develop and present a workshop on PDP at a District meeting. CERTIFICATION: All activities in this level must be registered/certified by the Club President, Club Secretary-Treasurer, Lt. Governor, District PDP Chair, District Secretary, District NCB Chair, District Club Fitness Advisor or District Governor as appropriate in the member s passport
