  5. New learning: Lesson 5 WALT understand thousandths as decimals https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/ explanation videos available here. Can you draw a place value grid showing all that you know about the place value of decimals? Can you draw a place value grid showing all that you know about the place value of decimals?

  6. Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th) When we were just looking at numbers with tenths and decimals, they were called numbers to 2 decimal places because they included digits in the first two decimal places. Now that we are also thinking about thousandths, we are learning about numbers to 3 decimal places.

  7. Lets remember what we did on Monday we were learning to understand thousandths.

  8. Today we are moving on to understanding thousandths as decimals, so writing the numbers, not just representing them. Can you write this number as a decimal? Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th)

  9. Today we are moving on to understanding thousandths as decimals, so writing the numbers, not just representing them. Can you write this number as a decimal? 4.121 Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th) 4 1 2 1

  10. Can you write down the number as a decimal? Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th)

  11. Can you write down the number as a decimal? Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th) 7 4 1 3 7.413 seven point four one three

  12. Can you write down the number as a decimal? Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th)

  13. Can you write down the number as a decimal? 5.029 Ones (O) Tenths (t) Hundredths (h) Thousandths (th) 29 5 5 wholes = 5 ones They would go here, but we cannot have more than 9 in one place, we know that! We need to exchange 20 thousandths, which is the same as 2 hundredths.

  14. Draw an arrow from each number to its position on the number line. 0.36 0.35 355 1000 0.354 0.359 0.352

  15. Draw an arrow from each number to its position on the number line. 0.36 0.351 0.353 0.354 0.355 0.356 0.357 0.358 0.359 0.352 0.35 355 1000 0.354 0.359 0.352 The number line is between 0.35 and 0.36, so the whole line is worth 0.01 (one hundredth). There are 10 equal intervals, so each interval is worth 1/10 of 0.01, so 0..001 (one thousandth). It is always a good plan to label the intervals as this will help.

  16. Write a decimal to complete the following statements. a) 5 2 8 10 + 100 + 1000 = 100 + 4 2 1 b) 10 + 1000 = 4 6 c) 100 + 1000 =

  17. Write a decimal to complete the following statements. a) 5 2 8 10 + 100 + 1000 = = 0.528 2 5 8 100 + 4 2 1 b) 10 + 1000 = = 0.421 1 4 2 4 6 = 0.046 c) 100 + 1000 = 4 6

  18. Now apply your learning and try the following sheets. Remember, you don t have to print the sheets, you can just look at them and write your answers on any paper, or just talk about what the answers would be with someone at home.
