When incorporating textual evidence into your writing, it is crucial to use quotes strategically, ensuring they enhance your argument. By leading readers into and out of quotes seamlessly, and blending them into your sentences creatively, you can maintain the integrity and impact of the original text. Remember to keep the quotes short, accurate, and relevant, while primarily focusing on expressing your own thoughts and analysis in the paper.

  2. Make quotes count You should use quotes sparingly to keep the quotes impactful that are used in the writing. In other words, use it if you absolutely have to Copy quotes correctly Keep the exactness (verbatim) of the quote Your words first Avoid beginning or ending a paragraph with a quote Remember you are the writer, the paper should be written mainly by you Keep quotes short Keep your quotes to a single sentence; if you need more information then you should paraphrase it

  3. When using quotes, lead your reader into the quote as well as lead out. You never want to plop the quote into the sentence without any explanation Blend each of the following quotes seamlessly into a sentence that you create. You should NOT begin the quote with, Ford said, ..... . Be more creative than that!

  4. Example: I will love the light for it shows me the way. Yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars. Og Mandino This is a stand alone quote. Embedded (Blended): Even though times may be difficult, it is important to be positive and love the light for it shows me the way [while] endur[ing] the darkness because it shows me the stars, said Mandino (44).

  7. Example of the quote properly embedded During the Winter Carnival, Finny stands up on the table to dance with the wildest demonstration of himself in order to show the others his choreography of peace writes Knowles (128).

  8. Directions: With the quote provided, create a lead out to embed the quote completely.
