 Export Manager
Export managers serve as intermediaries
between foreign buyers and domestic sellers.
Unlike export traders, who buy the products
before selling directly to foreign buyers,
export managers find buyers internationally
for domestic product manufacturers . Export
Manager is a key person. The success or
otherwise of the export order depends, to a
great extent, on how efficiently he handles
the order.

Planning for Export Order
This requires deciding the exact item for
export market. A study of the profile of
the target customer group and the
business practices of the target export
markets is of paramount importance in
the process of securing an export order.
Planning for Export Order
Execution
The export manager and his team should
understand the terms and conditions of
the export order. The export manager
should, then, proceed to develop a
detailed schedule for the completion of all
the tasks for the accomplishment of the
overall targets. Budgets, work programs
and implementation schedules are to be
prepared as a part of planning for
execution of the export order.
Directing
The export manager should issue
executive instructions to all the members
of the export team. The process is
referred to as directing for exports. It is
also viewed as an extension of export
planning as it involves issuing directions
to execute the export plans.
Importer Liaison
Export Management is intended to meet
the requirements of the importer to his
satisfaction. For the purpose, it is
important for all the members of the
export team to understand his
requirements as regards quality, labeling,
packaging, packing and markings on the
export products as well as delivery goods.
Reprogramming
Based on export reports, the export manger
should take suitable corrective measure to
improve the level of performance of various
functional divisions /outside agencies. For
this propose, reprogramming may have to be
done. The reprogramming involves changing
the plans, schedules and budgets or
redefining the channels of communication or
clarifying the export directions to the
members of export team.
Reporting
Reporting on the progress of the export
order is a logical consequence of export
order evaluation and reprogramming.
Every export manager should submit
reports at regular intervals, of the
progress of work to the top management.
The report should reflect the targets, the
actual performance and the variances,
with reasons thereof.
 Arrangements of  Shipping
The import-export manager oversees
employees as they handle arrangements
for freight shipments in a timely and cost-
effective manner. She makes sure that
staff members track freight movement
and communicate any delays to the
customer. The import-export manager
also looks for opportunities to find lower
cost carriers and faster shipping routes.
Relationships
export managers maintain good working
relationships with clients, vendors and
government agency representatives. Have
regular meetings with customers to develop
goodwill and address issues. By talking with
current and potential vendors such as
trucking companies, shipping carriers and
customs brokers, the manager can
recommend renewing contracts or switching
to companies that may provide better service
or charge a lower price.
Personnel management
 
export managers may help select and
interview job applicants. They ensure that
new hires receive adequate job training
and work orientation. The manager also
addresses problems with worker
productivity or accuracy, and helps
resolve conflicts between employees.
Accounting Function
Export managers may keep track of
invoices and prepare reports to expedite
the billing process. They may also have to
ensure that shipments are in compliance
with the laws and regulations governing
the export industry.
Middlemen Function
 As middlemen, export managers plan and
coordinate the international shipment of
goods. During the course of the day, they
may negotiate with a variety of people,
such as shippers, agents and vendors,
and are expected to have excellent
customer service skills in dealing with
customers.
Qualities of Export Manager
1. Educated .
2.Good planer .
3.Good understanding of sales and marketing strategies.
4.Well-developed communicational skills and a customer orientation.
5.Knowledge about budget management, international trade and taxations.
6.Ability to easily comprehend and organize shipment processes.
7. knowledge of export laws and regulations.
8.Knowledge about Computer .
9.Proficiency in other language is also desirable.
10.knowledge  and aware of the cultural differences of doing business in other
countries.
