  2. Solids and Liquids in Liquid Measurement Wet Measurement refers to a system which analyzes particles, liquid and/or solid, mixed or suspended into a carrier fluid. Measurement of slurry (particles suspended in carrier fluid) particle size, shape and concentration up to 1% Vol. by Vol. For Slurries with larger solids concentrations (1% to 60% Vol. by Vol.) the Canty suspension system would be utilised.   7. Lighting Techniques Cross Polarized Lighting Unpolarized Light - Light waves that vibrate/transmitted in more than one direction. Polarized Light- the polarizers blocks the lights rays that are transmitted in all directions and only allow rays that are transmitted in one direction For example in order to improve contrast of some particles (translucent/transparent particle), the polarized light will interact strongly with the particle to generate contrast. Unpolarized light will have multiple rays coming from all directions illuminating the particle thus reducing the contrast.   8. Lighting Techniques Dark Field Lighting . Typically used to improve contrast on semi transparent crystal structures. It provides illumination that is projected at a shallow angle to the imaging plane of the particles. The majority of the light will be directed away from the camera sensor, however, uneven surfaces on the particle s crystal structure will refract the light into the camera sensor thus delivering the desired contrast between the particles and the background. Delivers high contrast images of transparent specimens such as cells and proteins , allowing for the ability to identify minute changes in image contrast in the body of the specimen. This is of significant importance to be able to differentiae between viable and non viable cells without the needs for using a stain to improve image contrast.
