  3. How to Start Lessons and activities to teach: Nutrition Food preparation methods Common food substitutions Keeping food safe Basic cooking skills Figuring cost analysis

  4. Give them a Challenge Teams are given: Set of ingredients Receipt Educational resources From the ingredients, teams have 40 minutes to: Discover their ingredients Develop a recipe Prepare the recipe Develop a presentation Teams then give a presentation to a judging panel

  5. Benefits Knowledge Skills Economics Careers

  6. Outcomes As a results of participating in the food challenge, youth are: Using what they ve learned to cook at home Making healthier food choices Changing the way they handle and prepare food Reading nutrition fact labels Gaining valuable leadership skills, such as: Making better leadership decisions Developing comfort in working with others Serving in a leadership role Listening to others Following through on obligations Developing speaking skills
