  1. Chapter 1 Highlights Scout begins the chapter discussing Jem s broken arm and the events leading up to it. Dill comes to Maycomb and after playing together all summer, and getting bored of their usual activities, Dill comes up with the idea to make Boo Radley, their reclusive neighbor, come out of his house.

  2. Scout tells us that Boo got in trouble with the law and his father imprisoned him in the house as punishment. He was not heard from until fifteen years later, when he stabbed his father with a pair of scissors. Although people suggested that Boo was crazy, old Mr. Radley refused to have his son committed to an asylum. When the old man died, Boo s brother, Nathan, came to live in the house with Boo. Nevertheless, Boo continued to stay inside.

  3. Boo is given no identity apart from the youthful superstitions that 6 year old Scout describes: Scout describes him as a malevolent phantom Boo is over six feet tall Boo eats squirrels and cats. Boo goes out at night and peeps in windows. Boo has: Blood stained hands A Jagged scar across his face Yellow and rotten teeth Eyes popped out Drooled most of the time

  4. Myths / Rumors/ Gossip Miss Stephanie claims that Boo peeks in her bedroom window at night. Scout describes Boo as a "malevolent phantom" who only comes out "when the moon was down... Any stealthy small crimes committed in Maycomb were his work. People still blame Boo for the mutilation of small animals "although the culprit was Crazy Addie." Another rumor is that Boo poisons the pecans that fall into the schoolyard. Flowers froze because Boo breathed on them. He stabbed his dad in the leg with scissors.

  5. Dill dares Jem to run over and touch the house. Jem does it after being peer pressured by his little sister and his friend. Jem says that if Boo kills us all or if he gouges our eyes out, it s not his fault! There is no sign of movement at the Radley Place, although Scout thinks that she sees a shutter move slightly, as if someone were peeking out.

  6. CH 2 Highlights Scout s first day of school is awful.
