  1. Introduction Each Poetry question has two parts: Theme (What is the poem about) & Language (Techniques used by the poem to highlight the theme). Write a topic sentence that covers both. In the introduction, mention the full title of each poem. From then on you may use abbreviations for the poems. (For Example Aunt Jennifer's Tigers = AJT.) Poem 1 Use the words of the question (or synonyms) as your first sentence Discuss Poem 1 Address both parts of the question Personal Response Poem 2 Link to poem 1 and use the words of the question (or synonyms) as your first sentence Discuss Poem 2 Address both parts of the question Personal Response Poem 3 Link to poem 2 and use the words of the question (or synonyms) as your first sentence Discuss Poem 3 Address both parts of the question Personal Response Poem 4 Link to poem 3 and use the words of the question (or synonyms) as your first sentence Discuss Poem 4 Address both parts of the question Personal Response Poem 5 Link to poem 4 and use the words of the question (or synonyms) as your first sentence Discuss Poem 5 Address both parts of the question Personal Response Conclusion Refer to what you ve written i.e. As I have discussed, As outlined above Personal response to question- Sum up what you have said, comment on the poet, main themes, techniques, provide a personal response. Finish with a flourish, quote from a poem, quote from the poet, quote about the poet. Make it relevant!
