Purpose of Adult Education Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) Assist adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and economic self- sufficiency. Assist adults who are parents or family members to obtain the education skills that Are necessary to becoming full partners in the educational development of their children; and Lead to sustainable improvements in the economic opportunities for their family,

Purpose of Adult Education Assist adults in attaining a secondary school diploma and in the transition to postsecondary education and training, including through career pathways; and Assist immigrants and other individuals who are English language learners in Improving their 1) reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills in English; and 2) Math skills; and Acquiring an understanding of the American system of Government, individual freedom, and the responsibilities of citizenship

Eligibility Information You are at least 16 years of age Not enrolled or required to be enrolled in K-12 education (public, private, and homeschool) Authorized to work in the U.S. And Do not have a high school diploma, OR You need help with math, reading, and writing, OR You struggle to read, write, or speak English

  7. Service to Minors Participants must be at least 16 years old Officially withdrawn from school enrollment (public, private, church- related, or homeschool) by the parents/guardians or legal custodians

  8. Services to Minors Must have a signed approval form certifying the child has been withdrawn from school and allows for them to participate in adult education (signed by the parent/guardian/legal custodian) These forms are available at your local AE offices.

  9. Service to Minors Our programs must provide a report to the local board of education at least three (3) times per year relative to the child s progress. A 17 y/o may take the HiSET exam with a signed HiSET Recommendation form (by the superintendent of the school system). This form and a government-issued ID are required at the testing centers.

  10. Orientation/Intake Process Call local areas to set up a meeting time Goal Setting with local staff member Complete registration form

  11. Orientation/Intake Process Make sure you have IDs and signed forms (if applicable) SSN verification DOB verification Citizenship verification Take an initial assessment ABE/ASE students take TABE 11/12 ESL students take CASAS Class assignments (face-to-face or distance education)

  13. HiSET Testing Vouchers Eligibility requirements: TN Resident TN Driver s License or identification license Federally issued ID with TN address Pay stub, utility bill, voter registration card or lease with name and TN address

HiSET Testing Vouchers Eligibility Requirements: Test Preparedness Level Qualifying forms of a HiSET practice test (OPT 7, OPT8, or HiSET Academy Practice Test) OPT 7 Minimum Qualifying Scores Math-10 Reading-15 Writing (MC)-15 Writing (Essay)-2 Science-15 Social Studies -16 OPT 8 Minimum Qualifying Scores Math-7 Reading-17 Writing (MC)-11 Writing (Essay)-2 Science-13 Social Studies-12 HiSET Academy Minimum Qualifying Scores Math-8 Reading-8 Writing (MC)-8 Writing(Essay)-2 Science-8 Social Studies-8

HiSET Testing Voucher Eligibility Requirements: Educational Functioning Level 5 or higher in Math and Reading Using the TABE 11/12 assessment Assessment must be proctored by program staff Staff recommendation Professional judgement combined with other forms of educational assessment Issued by Program Director

  16. HiSET Testing Vouchers Eligibility Requirements: Previous Voucher Usage The maximum value of vouchers allowed per individual is equivalent to a full battery voucher (plus 2 retakes per subject allowed) Computer or Paper-based AE staff members will monitor voucher usage
