  2. MOSES RECEIVES THE LAW AT MOUNT SINAI TEXT: EXODUS 19-24 Memory Verse: And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them (Exodus 24:12).

  3. INTRODUCTION In every nation, and kingdom, laws have been put in place to maintain order and ensure peace. Without such laws, people would simply do whatever they want thus, leading to crime and crisis in the society. In Today s lesson we would: Understand the Law Moses received from God and its relations to humanity. Understand God s plan to teach and guide Christian youths in his laws and commandments through the Holy Spirit.

  5. 1. PREPARATION TO RECEIVE THE LAW Exodus 19:1-25; Ezra 10:1; Isaiah 2:3 Before Moses went up to the mount to receive the law, God instructed him to prepare the people. The preparation was for them to cleanse themselves, wash their clothes, and sanctify themselves. In the same way as youths, God expects us to : Prepare to receive His word today (Ezra 7:10). Cleanse our hearts through His word (law) (Psalm 19:7a).

  6. 2. PROPER RESPONSE TO GOD'S LAW Exodus 20:1-26; 21:1-36; 22:1-31; 23:1-19 What should be our response to God s instructions/ laws? - 2 Kings 22:11,19. 1. Accept it 2. Receive it (Job 22:22) 3. Obey his word (Genesis 26:5; 4. Keep it (1 John 2:3) 5. Remember the word. 6. Do it. 7. Meditate on them (Joshua 1:7,8; Psalm 1:2);

  7. 2. Contd 8. Desire God s word (Nehemiah 8:1,2) 9. Delight in His word (Romans 7:22) 10.Take time to understand God s command (Nehemiah 8:8) 11.Take heed to them (Joshua 22:5) 12.Tell others (friends, schoolmates) As believers, we have one truth which is Jesus Christ. Paul cautioned us not to believe any other gospel different from that which saves the soul through our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:6-9).

  8. 3. PERPETUAL REWARDS FOR OBEYING GOD'S LAW (Exodus 23:20-33; 24:1-18; Leviticus 26:3-13) God s laws and commandments are not burdensome, they are good for you 1 John 5:3. OBEDIENCE to God's law brings REWARDS and this is repeated severally in the BIBLE. Here are some rewards : 1. God's presence (Exodus 24:9-11); 2. Blessings (Leviticus 26:3-13); 3. Wisdom (Proverbs 28:7a); 4. Prosperity (Deuteronomy 30:9,10); 5. Healing (Exodus 15:26); 6. Justification (Romans 2:13

  9. 3. Contd But, for those youths who refuse to obey God s laws, they should expect nothing but: Opposition (2 Chronicles 12:1-3), Punishment (Amos 2:4), Wrath (Zechariah 7:12), Judgment (Psalm 89:31-32), Rejection and Destruction (Hosea 4:6).

  10. Conclusion Keeping the Law is an act of devotion to God. The purpose of the law is to keep us from crisis and hell, anyone who does not obey God's laws through Christ who came to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17) is preparing himself/herself for a life of crisis. The door of God's forgiveness is still open today for youths who are ready to turn to him in repentance and accept Jesus Christ as their lord and Saviour.
