Explore the concepts of homeostasis, stimuli, and feedback mechanisms in biological systems. Learn how organisms maintain internal balance, respond to internal and external stimuli, and regulate bodily functions through feedback processes. Discover examples of responses such as sweating when hot, squinting in bright light, and the fight-or-flight reaction to perceived threats.

  1. An organism balancing its internal conditions, such as the chemical composition of its body fluids, to stay healthy. Homeostasis Example: If you get too hot you sweat!

  2. Something that causes an organism to respond in a certain way. Stimulus Example: The lights go out and you guys scream

  3. Something inside the body that causes the body to respond. Internal Stimulus Example: Stomach growls and you eat ..

  4. Something outside the body that causes the body to respond. External Stimulus Example: It s cold outside and you shiver.

  5. A reaction to a stimulus. Response Example: The sun is too bright and you squint.

  6. A body prepares to either fight it out or run for its life. Fight or Flight Example: Your reaction when you see a big, loud dog coming at you.

  7. A plants response to sunlight. Phototropism Example: A plant will lean toward the sun.

  8. A plants roots and stems responding to gravity. Geotropism Example: The roots grow down and the stems grow up.

  9. The body monitoring itself to see if it needs to be balanced or if it has already been balanced. Feedback Mechanism Example: If your body has cooled down then you need to stop sweating.

  10. When your body is now in balance or homeostasis. Stable or Stability Example: Your blood sugar was too low now it is just right.
