Standards: MLII.INT1A Identify main ideas and essential details when reading and listening. MLII.IP1G Ask questions and provide responses about plans and events. MLII.INT1B Interpret culturally authentic materials and information. Essential Question: How does the way I celebrate holidays differ from the target culture? Success Criteria: I can identify the main idea and some details of a description of a holiday celebration. I can ask and answer questions about holidays.

Work Period Activity 1 Video Holiday: Interpretive Listening Task: Write down words / things / activities that you see in the video that you can express in German 1. Work Period Activity 2 Present an excerpt from this text describing the cultural tradition that explains where, when, how and why it is celebrated. Interpretive Reading Task: In pairs, highlight the answers in the text and formulate simple answers to the questions: Was ist ein Maibaum? Was ist Maibaumstehlen?
Work Period Activity 3 Presentational Writing Task: Make a list of related vocabulary for the cultural tradition.
Work Period Activity 4 Presentational Writing Task: Think about a tradition you cherish in your own community. List words that are related to the tradition.
Work Period Activity 5 Interpersonal Speaking Task: Share your list of words with a partner and have the partner guess the tradition.
Closing: Ticket-out-the-Door: 3-2-1 Presentational Writing Task: On a big index card, write down three adjectives describing your traditions, two nouns related to your tradition, and the name of your holiday as an inverted pyramid.
