Traffic Flow Improvement at the Gate 1 Pilot Project
MAF One Way Traffic Flow (Morning/Afternoon) Current Two-Way Traffic Flow Afternoon traffic inside both gates 1 & 2 are very congested (increase in vehicles nos.) Slow movement of vehicles before exiting the gates Only one lane leading towards the gate 1 is causing a chaos and could result in an accident (unsafe conditions) Causing irritation and staff are crossing and forcing in front of the others. INTERIM SOLUTION - One-Way Traffic Flow at Peak Times (3:30PM to 4:30PM) Design a new system of a single way traffic flow (both lanes to be utilised for one direction) One-way exit on peak times from 3:30PM to 4:30PM Prominent signs indicating one way traffic flow during peak hours. All merging T-junctions to follow the One-way system In the afternoon peak hours, the entry will be via only one lane on Gate 1 and thru the shaded parking area leading behind the BSM building

One Way Route and Junctions Layout 11 locations / junctions along the proposed route (After the Gate 1 entrance) All of them should be signed in accordance with the traffic management plan. Afternoon Peak Hour Challenges (15:30 16:30) Areas Affected (PM PEAK) Restriction / Limitation Diversion / Solution UIB, ARCHIVE, TELECOM, STUDY CENTRE, Parking areas AMBER ZONES (traffic coming from GATE 1 towards Alternatives: Time Adjustment(to reach the Seaside next to the SUBWAY Seaside road/ GATE 2 / GATE 3) road before 15:30 or after 16:30) Alternative route: Going behind BSM Building to reach Seaside road. Q & A 1. When the Pilot project will take place? The Pilot project will commence on Sunday 1st April 2018. If successful, the project / one way traffic flow regime during peak hours will continue until further notice. 2. What the Pilot project all about? The aim of the Pilot project is to address the issues related to traffic queuing while exiting PDO MAF area via GATE 1, during afternoon peak hours. The two traffic lanes leading to / from GATE 1 will be converted to ONE WAY TRAFFIC FLOW during afternoon peak while exiting MAF through the GATE 1 (15:30 16:30). 3. Will the Pilot project affect me? Residents and Visitors of the Old Building, BSM, BAB, Pool Car, Study Centre, Telecom, Archive and UIB are likely to be affected by the new traffic arrangements during peak hours. Anyone leaving the offices via GATE 1 Seaside road (towards the Seaside road) during the afternoon peak hour: 15:30 16:30. 4. What alternatives are in place for those affected by the new traffic flow regime? Alternative 1: Using the road thru shaded parking lot near to pool car leading behind BSM building to access Seaside road Alternative 2: Time adjustment. Afternoon peak (15:30 16:30): Anyone going towards GATE 2 and GATE 3 can use GATE 1 to exit PDO MAF and only one entry lane on Gate No 1 will remain for entering PDO MAF and than thru shaded parking lot next to Pool Car Building then behind the BSM building access the Seaside road.
