Researchers have studied various aspects of child development Three important researchers studying the child development are: Jean Piaget is interested in intellectual or cognitive development Erik Erikson is concerned with social development Lawrence Kohlberg studies the development of moral judgement Lev Vygotsky and Steven Pinker study language development (language acquistion)

Jean Piaget and Cognitive Development Piaget mentions four stages of development 1- Sensorimotor Period (Birth to Two Years Old) lullabies and nursery rhymes 2- preoperational level (Two to Seven Years Old) 3- Period of Concrete Operations :Seven to Twelve years Old 4- Period of Formal Operations : Twelve to Fifteen Years Old

Erik Erikson and Psychosocial Development Trust versus Mistrust: Birth to Eighteen Months Autonomy Versus Doubt: Eighteen Months to Three Years Initiative Versus Guilt : Three Years to Six Years Industry Versus Inferiority : Seven to Eleven Identity Versus Role Confusion: Eleven Years and Beyond

5. Lawrence Kohlberg and Moral Development Pre-Conventional Level Kohlberg divided this level into two parts 1-Punishment/Obedience Orientation 2- Self-Interest Orientation What s in it for me?

6. Lawrence Kohlberg and Moral Development Conventional Level This level has two parts: 1- Interpersonal Concordance (or Good Boy/Good Girl ) Orientation 2- Law and Order Orientation
