  1. The Power of the Gift The Feast of Weeks - Shavuot Mark 16:19-20; Acts 2:1-8; Jeremiah 31:31-34

  2. Mark 16:1920 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs. ESV

  3. Acts 2:14 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. ESV

Jeremiah 31:3132 Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. ESV

  5. Jeremiah 31:3334 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. ESV

  6. Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) - a time of remembrance and thanksgiving of God s provision as Israel had been strangers in a foreign land; and so likewise they were to share their abundance with those less fortunate (Lev. 23:22; Deut. 16:11-12).

  7. Shavuot - remembrance and thanksgiving for the time God gave the Torah to Israel (Today s Jew).

  8. Pentecost - the remembrance of the Holy Spirit of God coming upon the disciples of Jesus, in the upper room, in the temple, in tongues of fire and power recorded in Acts 2.

  9. Pentecost - It is when Peter gives the first sermon of his ministry, testifying to the truth of Christ and calling people to repentance, baptism and the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38-39)

  10. Pentecost - the day when God sent His Holy Spirit as proof that Jesus was indeed His Son and had been exalted as LORD at His right hand.

  11. Pentecost - the first day of the establishment of the church body of Christ found in Acts 2:42-47.

  12. How do you know when you have made contact with something or someone? Usually there is some sort of indelible mark left behind.

  13. How does one know when they have made a connection with God? There is usually some sort of un- erasable mark left behind from one s encounter.

  14. Romans 5:7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die ESV

  15. Do we have a powered connection with God? Has God left an indelible mark upon you?

  16. Mark 16:1617 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; ESV

  17. Mark 16:1819 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover. So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. ESV

  18. Mark 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs. ESV

  21. The Gospel will be accompanied by signs of healing, deliverance, safety, speaking of tongues and language (unknown before) this power, is of Jesus, and from Jesus, and is true.

  22. Jesus is the same today as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow He is constant and consistent (Hebrews 13:8).

  23. The question is: What is my connection with God like?

  24. The indwelling Holy Spirit, whose purpose, among many things, is to witness and lead man into the truth of Christ.

  25. John 14:2324 Jesus answered him, If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father s who sent me. ESV

  26. John 14:2526 These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. ESV

  27. Titus 3:45 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, ESV

  28. Titus 3:67 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. ESV

  29. Romans 8:1617 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. ESV

  30. What does it mean to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit?

  31. It means to be surrendered to Jesus; allowing Jesus to be one s sanctifier - one s sanitizer.

  32. To surrender does not mean giving up things, but it means giving up self.

  33. Romans 12:12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ESV

  34. God does not accept a divided heart; is this the source of our power outage?

  35. Ones connection with God, the power of the Holy Spirit, is based on the exercising of one s faith.

  36. Gideons Empowerment from God (Judges 6:34)

  37. Judges 6:34 But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon, and he sounded the trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called out to follow him. ESV

  38. Ephesians 2:89 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. ESV

  39. Romans 12:3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. ESV

  40. 1 Timothy 1:1314 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. ESV

  41. Romans 6:1718 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. ESV

Matthew 21:2122 And Jesus answered them, Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and thrown into the sea, it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith. ESV

  47. Judges 7:15 As soon as Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped. And he returned to the camp of Israel and said, Arise, for the Lord has given the host of Midian into your hand. ESV

  48. Galatians 3:5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith ESV

  49. Does God work amongst us by obeying the Law, or by believing in faith?

  50. Who will you give priority to: the old man or the Holy Spirit living in you?
