Teens as Volunteers How can you effectively engage teenagers? Teens think they are grown and can do anything Teens think they are invincible and cannot be hurt Teens on a worksite Special day without construction (ie, painting day) Clean-up day in a neighborhood or on a block Taking ministry to teens Less effective away from actual ministry site
Young Adults as Volunteers How do we effectively engage people 18-24? Know what they like Keep ministry relevant Help them know what they get out of the relationship What happens if we miss the mark with these young adults? Next generation volunteers, Board Members, staff & donors

The Origins of Habitat Campus Chapters Baylor University (1987)
A great idea! Millard Fuller and Gary Cook The idea of a campus chapter originated after Fuller gave a presentation at a Baylor Chapel service in 1987 Fuller chronicles this episode of Habitat history in his book More than Houses Cook, a Baylor religion professor and assistant to the president, went on to become president of Dallas Baptist University
A notable alumna of Baylors Habitat for Humanity Chapter Melissa Rogers: Special Assistant to the President and Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships Former Executive Director of the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life and Director of Wake Forest University Divinity School's Center for Religion and Public Affairs Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution
Baylors Tradition of Public Service Continues Origins of the Civic Education and Community Service (CCS) Program Begun in 1989 (partnerships with Mission Waco, Caritas, etc.) Habitat component began in 2004 Offers students service learning credit for participation with different social service agencies throughout Central Texas Increasingly, these efforts are integrated into actual coursework (Social World II)
