Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, W ise? unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. W ise?

Submission is the ability to lay down the terrible burden of always needing to get our own way.... Frankly, most things in life are not nearly so important as we think they are. Our lives will not come to an end if this or that does not happen. If you will watch these things you will see, for example, that almost all church fights and splits occur because people do not have the freedom to give in to each other. We insist that a critical issue is at stake; we are fighting for a sacred principle. Perhaps that is true. Usually it is not. ~Richard Foster, The Celebration of Discipline
