Chat-GPT Between Myth and Reality By : Muneer Jebreel Karama Palestine Polytechnic University International-e-Conference-on-Artificial-Intelligence 03/06/2023 1
Introduction Chat-GPT considers one of the essential open artificial intelligence (AI) in this digital era, so the researchers divided it into three groups; with, against, and neutral. But on which side are you? This article will discuss this dilemma in more depth. 2
What is Chat-GPT ? How Chat- GPT can improve and speed up your scientific writing tasks? The drawbacks and risks to be aware of when using Chat-GPT? How can I get the most out of Chat-GPT? 3
GPT (short for "Generative Pre-training Transformer ") is a language generation model developed by Open AI. It uses machine-learning techniques to generate natural language text that is often difficult to distinguish from text written by humans. GPT is trained on a large dataset of human-generated text and can generate text in a variety of languages and formats, including news articles, stories, poems, and more. It has been widely used for a variety of language processing tasks, such as language translation, summarization, and question answering. (Anton,2023,p1) 4
How Chat-GPT can improve and speed up your scientific writing tasks? There are no limits of this answer, here some examples (adapted from: Khatora Opperman,2023) Formulate emails and replies , Write a stellar researcher bio, Simplify complex topics , Brainstorm ideas for a grant application , Compose social media posts, Suggest analogies for your research , Fix your grammar , Translate into a variety of languages , And SO MUCH MORE! Every time you open it up, you ll find a new use for it. 5
The drawbacks and risks to be aware of when using Chat-GPT. Risk 1: Inaccuracy Example : Please write a short bio for Dr Mook shook ? Here his answer : And yes I checked Dr Mook shook does not exist! So, do not trust Chat-GPT for accuracy! 6
Risk 2: Unreliable References My Question : Please give me top articles in Math-Education Its answer : They may look real, but in fact none of these scientific articles exist! 7
Risk 3: Safety and legal concerns For example Springer Nature stating that: Chat-GPT, and others, will NOT be accepted as a credited author on a research paper. Researchers must disclose the use of such tools in the methods or acknowledgements sections. 8
Risk 4: Training Bias ((adapted from: Khatora Opperman,2023)) 9
How can I get the most out of Chat-GPT Tip 1: Use descriptive prompts. 12
Tip 3: Use clear and concise language Using simple and direct language is key to getting the most useful responses from ChatGPT 14
Extra Tip: Always fact-check Use Google! Read the literature! Check your old notes! Ensure for your own credibility that the information is correct before you use it. 15
