3. Intro to Unit 6: The Cold War Since this is a conflict over political ideologies, we will spend today discussing varying ideologies and their similarities/differences. (Be ready for bellwork coming up ..)

4. BELLWORK 1/7: Cold War Political Ideologies 1. In one sentence, summarize the main idea of liberalism. 2. In one sentence, summarize the main idea of conservatism. 3. Brainstorm a list of things you know about communist ideology. 4. In one sentence, summarize the main idea of socialism. How is this different than communism? 5. How does Maoism differ from traditional Marxism? 6. THINKER: Which ideologies can be categorized as left- wing and right-wing?

6. Communist Ideology Brainstorm Response to problems brought on by capitalism Advocates revolutionary action! Necessary for radical change! Classless/stateless society Collective ownership of means of production Marxist theory argues that communism could NOT emerge directly from a capitalist state socialism first! Free society with no divisions or oppression no need for government! Communism aims to create a world where each person gives according to their abilities and receives according to their needs. Discuss What problems exist within communist ideology???

7. Discussion: Right wing vs. Left wing Which ideologies can be categorized as left- wing and right-wing? What similarities exist between extreme left and right political factions?

8. HOMEWORK: Due Wednesday Where do YOU fit on the political spectrum? For homework tonight, take the quiz! www.isidewith.org In order to get the most accurate response, answer all the questions. Also use this opportunity to learn more about important topics as they relate to the 2020 election (click on learn more button after the question) On the back of your political spectrum, list your results. Then, plot your spot on the spectrum.

9. Political/Economic Ideologies Review Skits Your task .. The class will be divided into two groups right wing and left wing In your group, create a skit that demonstrates understanding of your political/economic ideology. Your skit should emphasize: Role of civilians Role of government Relationship with other nations Different political groups within your side This is review!
