The respiratory system plays a crucial role in our bodies by taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. Key components include the lungs, diaphragm, bronchi, and alveoli. Air enters through the nose or mouth, travels down the trachea to the lungs, where oxygen is absorbed into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is removed. The diaphragm facilitates breathing by expanding and contracting. The relationship between the respiratory and circulatory systems is essential for maintaining life-sustaining functions.

  1. Respiratory and Circulatory System

  2. STANDARD: 5.L.1.2 Compare the major systems of the human body (digestive, respiratory, circulatory, muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular) in terms of their functions necessary for life I can explain the functions of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. I can identify and explain the relationship between respiratory and circulatory system. Clear Learning Goals: Summarize the functions of the respiratory system and list the major parts. Summarize the functions of the cardiovascular system and list the major parts. Explain the relationship between respiratory and circulatory (cardiovascular) system.

  3. Respiratory System The Respiratory System takes in oxygen from the air that you breathe. It also expels carbon dioxide from your body.

  4. Respiratory System The lungs are the main structures in this system.

  6. Respiratory System Air enters your body through nose or mouth, moves down your throat & passes through the trachea or windpipe, then to your lungs.

  7. Respiratory System Your diaphragm lies below the lungs. The diaphragm is a muscle that tightens and relaxes to make you breathe in and out.

  8. Respiratory System Oxygen is taken into your blood and carbon dioxide leaves your blood through small tubes called bronchi and then tiny air sacs called alveoli.

  13. Circulatory System Carries oxygen, nutrients & waste throughout the body. Made up of the heart, blood vessels and blood.

  15. Circulatory System The heart is the center of this system, it pumps blood through blood vessels called arteries. The heart is also called the cardiovascular muscle.

  16. Circulatory System Blood moves from arteries to capillaries. In the capillaries oxygen & nutrients move from the blood to the body s cells. Blood then moves through veins back to the heart, carrying carbon dioxide in it.

  19. Circulatory System The circulatory system also works with the respiratory and digestive systems.

  20. Circulatory System Respiratory system gives oxygen & the circulatory system takes that oxygen to other cells. Digestive system breaks down nutrients in food & the circulatory system carries the nutrients to cells in the body.

  21. Circulatory System The Circulatory System is also sometimes called the Cardiovascular System. Cardio - means heart Vascular - means vessels
