Learn about the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction through examples and visual aids. Practice writing inverse number sentences and understand how addition and subtraction are opposite operations that involve rearranging the same numbers in a different order.

LI: I understand that addition and subtraction are the inverse of each other. LI: I can write inverse number sentences
Addition and subtraction are the opposite of each other. 3 + 7 = 10 10 7 = 3 We say that they are inverse operations.
What would be the inverse of: 6 + 4 = 10 10 4 = 6 It is the same numbers in a different order
9 + 1 = 10 10 1 = 9
5 + 5 = 10 10 5 = 5
8 + 2 = 10 10 2 = 8
10 1 = 9 9 + 1 = 10
10 6 = 4 4 + 6 = 10
Remember: *An addition will become a subtraction *A subtraction will become an addition *You will have the same three numbers rearranged in a different order
You are going to write addition number sentences and then write the inverse underneath. For example: 6 + 4 = 10 10 4 = 6
Write the inverse of each of these on your board: Plenary 11 + 9 = 20 13 + 7 = 20 20 5 = 15 20 8 = 12
