Who We Are ORG NAME and mission statement
Who We Are Because Suicide sneaks into our lives, disabling the survivors, who spend the rest of their lives adjusting to the residual taboo. We become silent and search aimlessly for peace. The trauma of suicide reduces our capacity to accept the demands of everyday life. We lose our connection to who we once were. We are challenged by the unique stigma and complications of death by suicide. Nan and Gary Zastrow
Who We Are PROGRAM HISTORY & GROWTH
Impact of Suicide: Resources, Understanding, Support Studies show survivors of a suicide loss experience prolonged grief, need for professional help, and increased psychiatric and general health issues as compared to those bereaved by a natural death. Studies show that suicide loss survivors who confided in another suicide survivor found it beneficial in their grief process. For many survivors, participation in peer one-on-one support and peer support groups is felt to be their only access to people who they feel can understand them.
