Edification of the church Understanding and applying Spiritual gifts Order in the church
Paul makes two statements that go together in 1Cor14: Verse 26: 1) let all things be done into edifying Verse 40: 2) Let all things be done decently and in order.
1Cor 12:8-10 A.Three gifts of Revelation:- 1.Word of Wisdom 2.Word of knowledge 3.Discerning of Spirit
B. Three gifts of Power:- 1.Faith 2.Miracles 3.Healing
C. Three vocal gifts: - 1. Tongues 2. Interpretation 3. Prophecy
1 Cor 14:1 he that speaketh in another tongue speaketh not to man but to God There are three functions: 1.You are speaking to God (It s a privilege that you have) 2.You are speaking mysteries (secrets that the mind does not understand) 3.You are edifying or building yourself up.
1 Corinthians 14:13 For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says verse 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
Interpreting Definition: The gift of interpretation has no meaning apart from the gift of tongues. But if someone has spoken with an unknown tongue by the Holy Spirit, the gift of interpreting enables either that person or another person, (not through intellectual understanding) to speak out in a known language that which was spoken in tongues.
Prophecy Prophecy is speaking a language that is known to all, words that are given by the Holy Spirit. This is not by human understanding they are given supernaturally by the Holy Spirit to an individual for the church encouragement, comfort and warning.
The difference between interpretation and prophesy is: Interpretation is preceded by the utterance of an unknown language and its related to the unknown language.
