Types of Curriculum followed State Level Board: where there is common curriculum with a State and varies from State to State. In Maharashtra it is called Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education commonly referred to as SSC (Secondary School Certificate Board) CBSE: (Central Board of Secondary Education) This has its headquarters is New Delhi and a common curriculum/syllabus over the country. It was primarily started for children for defence personnel. As they have to move and are transferred several times within the same year it ensures non-disruption/minimum hassles in the studies for children. ICSE: (Indian School Certificate Examination). A common syllabus is followed all over the country. Secondary and Higher is followed all
Types of Curriculum In all the three boards: SSC, CBSE and ICSE although a majority of the subjects are the same for the Std. X Examination, a wider choice is usually available. Schools may not have teachers for certain subjects and so the choice may seem limited at first. Since children with ASD have uneven skills some of them are exceptionally good in certain areas it would help to choose and appear for certain papers towards which they are more naturally inclined. They may have to do self-study or take private tuition in these papers. The school can play a vital role in determining their strengths and making them aware of the choices through counselling, especially at the time of seeking/admitting children in schools at the lower level. Many parents are unaware of the choices at a later stage and many schools are unware that there is so much that ASD children can do if nurtured properly by early intervention.
Types of Curriculum NIOS (National Open School): NIOS is the largest open schooling program in the world. It was started by the Government in 1980s mainly for the underprivileged kids/school drop outs. It has emerged as an alternative for all the children who cannot pass CBSE, ICSE or State Board for any reason. It is also a boon for some children with special needs (specifically LD, Slow Learners and some kids with Autism). Every year around 3.5 lakh kids finish 10th/12th through NIOS. It is open only to Indian citizens, including NRIs. Recently, in January 2019, the State of Maharashtra has started an open school curriculum and the first exams were held in June 2019.
Concession for ASD students SSC Board : The facility of nearby examination centers can be availed (students who are studying in the same school or school near home). Extra 20 minutes per hour to complete their exam. Concession of 20 grace marks for a single subject or 20 grace marks divided totally among all the subjects would be given to a student if the student fails the examination. As per the medical certificate, if there is requirement of a writer, permission is given to avail of a writer. If required, Adult writer can be availed. Calculator can be used by students from Std 1 to Std 9 as per medical certificate, for school exams, and also by students of Std 10 and Std 12 at the Board exams. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

With respect to such questions if the answers are in accordance with the main point, the examiners should grant marks based on the relevant information /answers given. 14. As per the Board rules, concessional marks will be applicable to students, who avail all 6 regular subjects. 18. Students are allowed to type or write their answer booklets. 19. Marks need not be deducted for grammatical errors, spelling, punctuation marks, etc. for these students. 20. All verbal instructions for examination should be written on the blackboard. 21. Concessions for ASD students CBSE Board Concessions For ASD Candidates Flexibility in choosing subjects. Relaxation of attendance on request. Exemption from studying the second language. Reader/ Adult Prompter/Scribe and compensatory time. Examination Hall on the ground floor. Option of skill based subjects. Use of Computer in writing the examination as per the actual need and skills of the students with disabilities.
Concessions for ASD students CBSE Board Concessions For ASD Candidates 1) Exemption from third language Candidates with disabilities as defined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 will be exempted from third language. 2) Flexibility in choosing subjects a) Candidates with disabilities as defined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 have the option of studying one compulsory language as against two. This language should be in consonance with the overall spirit of the Three Language Formula prescribed by the Board. Besides one language any four from amongst the following groups can be offered: Group 1 Mathematics, Science, Social Science, another language, Music (Any one), Painting, Home Science, Elements of Business, Elements of Book Keeping and Accountancy, Computer Applications Group 2 Any One Skill Subject (except Automotive) for Regular Candidates Only Note: Information Technology from Group 2 cannot be offered if Computer Applications from Group 1 is opted.
Concessions for ASD students CBSE Board Concessions For ASD Candidates b) Bonafide residents candidate as per provisions of Examination Byelaws cannot take subjects having Practical Component at Secondary level. However, candidates with disabilities as defined in The Rights of Persons with Disability Act 2016 have the option of taking up Music, Painting, Home Science as the subjects of study. c) Physio-therapic exercises are considered as equivalent to Health and Physical Education course of the Board. 3) Alternate questions/Separate Question i. Alternative type questions are provided in lieu of question having visual inputs for visually impaired candidates in the subject Social Science. ii. With effect from 2020, in lieu of large font Question Papers, candidates will be allowed to use magnifying glasses/portable video magnifiers. of Delhi appearing as Private
Concessions for ASD students ICSE Board Concessions For ASD Candidates The Council is prepared to give special consideration and make necessary arrangements in respect of candidates who are handicapped in any way, which might affect their performance in the (X) and (XII) Examination. The Council s committee does not give a blanket concession but treats every case on its merit. A Special Difficulty Form is forwarded to the Council by the Head of the candidates school and the candidates examination script is then given special consideration by the committee before the issue of the results.
Concessions for ASD students ICSE Board Concessions For ASD Candidates Allowance of additional time i.e. 15 mins additional time per hour However, if the candidate s speed of writing is affected by his handicap, a greater allowance may be granted in a paper requiring extensive writing such as English Literature or history. Allow use of amanuensis (Scribe / Writer) : When a candidate s performance is affected to such an extent that any reasonable allowance of extra time would not meet the difficulty, the use of amanuensis is permitted (with or without extra time) The amanuensis normally would be a fellow pupil from a lower standard. Similar arrangement is permitted in practical examinations.

The question paper may be read out, but not explained in any way, to candidates who have defective eyesight or a certified reading disability. Concessions Specific for Autism are: Exemption from the second language provided if a concession certificate is issued by State/Central Government Allowance of additional time Use of an Amanuensis/Reader/Reader-cum-Writer. Separate seating arrangements Use of Scientific Calculator to be used for Mathematical calculations only. Heads of Schools concerned must obtain approval from the Council well in advance and copy to be submitted to the Supervising Examiner at the appropriate time.

It can be a regular thing like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Accountancy, Economics etc. However for the special needs fraternity there are subjects like Home Science, Data Entry, Painting, etc. which appear relatively easy (compared to CBSE.) THUS FOR OUR CHILDREN, IT HAS EMERGED AS A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO CBSE / ISCE / STATE BOARDS One has to take a minimum of one language and maximum of two languages. languages are available The medium can be any of the listed Indian Language All major Indian
Concessions for ASD students Concessions for NIOS One has to be minimum 14 years old to be eligible for secondary exam. You need either a school pass certificate of 8th with a Transfer Certificate or a self certification that one is fit to appear for Secondary. SELF CERTIFICATION IS ADVOCATED TO AVOID THE HASSLE OF GETTING A TC FROM SCHOOL The entire books are sent by post by NIOS The exam can be given at the students own pace. Exams are held twice an year. The child can opt for either one subject or all subjects at a time You can opt for six or even seven subjects. The best five will be taken. You can even afford to flunk in the remaining two, so you get to choose 5/7.
Concessions for ASD students Concessions for NIOS One can stagger the subjects. This is a major advantage as the student has an option to take all 5 subjects at one go or take them one or two at a time. Thus it makes it less stressful for our students Nine chances are given. Passing mark is only 33%. Some of the subjects have theory and practical with suitable breakup. (Say Data Entry, which is basics of MS office has a 40:60 break up) 20% marks in theory are from internal assessment (called TMA) in which the child can be helped by teacher/parent. This has to be submitted to one of the schools accredited by NIOS (called AI- who just coordinate), the entire course is correspondence
