Delinquency is Behavior that violates laws (illegal) By juveniles (usually 12 17 years old) That would be crimes for adults.
Types of Crime/Delinquency FBI & BJS (Bureau of Justice Statistics) definitions Specific legal codes vary federally, by state, and locally General Categories of Offenses: Violent (nonsexual); Sexual; Property; Drug Public Order; Status (non-delinquent); Other; Cyber
Violent Offenses Involve force or threat of force against the person Assault: Aggravated (serious) & Simple (less serious) Offenses against Family Robbery (involves force and property) Homicide: Murder & Negligent Manslaughter Hate Crime motivated by bias Bullying Stalking
Sexual Offenses Rape: intercourse without consent Statutory: consensual but with a minor Sexual Assault: Other sexual acts without consent Pressured Sex: Harmful but usually not formally illegal Sexual Harassment: hostile, unsafe environment Voyeurism Exhibitionism
Property Offenses Larceny-Theft (stealing): Grand and Petty Motor Vehicle Theft (excludes carjacking) Joyriding (for fun, not material gain) Burglary/Breaking and Entering (different from robbery) Vandalism; Arson Weapon Law Violations; Stolen Property Other Theft: Counterfeiting & Forgery; Bad Checks; Fraud; Personal & Financial Data; Identity; Embezzlement
Drug Offenses Drug/Narcotic Violations Making/growing, using, selling, etc. Drug Equipment Drug Possession Drug Related Driving Under the Influence Alcohol and other substances
Public Order Offenses Vice crimes and other norm violations: Disorderly Conduct Drunkenness Trespassing Gambling Curfew/Loitering/Vagrancy Liquor Law Violations Prostitution Family Offenses, Nonviolent
Status Offenses Not illegal for adults; thus not delinquency: Curfew (for juveniles) Running Away Underage Drinking Incorrigibility/Ungovernable Truancy Underage Smoking
