What does that BJCP stuff really mean? What does that BJCP stuff really mean? An american pale is a 50/50 balance between malt and hops. If i double ipa is hop focuses, and an ipa is hop focused with a backbone, than a pale ale should be malt balanced

Key techniques to making a good American Pale Ale Good Malt Backbone: Good Malt Backbone: Adding more than 2 row and crystal ie: Munich, Wheat, American Hop Selection American Hop Selection: Building a nice hop flavor profile with new world hops or old school C hops Clean Fermentation: Clean Fermentation: this is a lighter beer where you want to taste a complex balance of malt and hops Good Dry Hopping Techniques: Good Dry Hopping Techniques: Fresh Hops, timing on DH, Clean transfers, low D.O. rate, no diacetyl Whirlpooling: Whirlpooling: Adding hops in the 165-180 degrees at flameout to avoid hop isomerization
