Understanding Air Pollution and Respiratory Health
Explore the impact of air pollution on respiratory health, learning about the Air Quality Health Index, importance of green spaces, lungs function, and the role of rain in clearing pollutants. Discover how wind conditions affect air quality and why children and parents need to monitor daily air quality.

This stuff is in our air and can make it harder to breathe
Kids and parents can use this Index every day to see what the air quality is like in their community
What is the Air Quality Health Index?
These body parts are gas exchangers that are always at work
Every person does this about 20,000 times per day
When this falls, pollution is washed from the sky
These green areas are better places to exercise and play because they are usually further away from traffic
When winds are ______, pollution can build up in the air
This activity makes the most air pollution in Canada
A full one of these takes up to 60 cars off the road
Your school might encourage students to do this more to improve health and protect the environment
What is walk to school? bike skateboard scooter
If cars did less of this in the winter, there would be less air pollution around schools
What is idle? (keep vehicles running)
Reducing our use of this in homes and schools saves money and reduces air pollution and greenhouse gases
When the Air Quality Health Index is High Risk , you can do this to help protect your health
What is change your outdoor activity or stay inside?
Kids are more sensitive to air pollution because they do more of this than adults, especially during summer
Children do this thing faster than adults
This is the #1 cause of hospital visits for children in Canada
Play the Air Quality Jeopardy Game
