My role in Data Management Research Services Librarian post to support needs of researchers Manage and promote ROAR the institutional repository as showcase for UEL research Recruited with RDM expertise Participating, advising and providing the necessary lead to support the University s RDM initiatives

  4. Engaging with the community Need to keep up to date in a fast-moving field Research Data Management Forum Contact with Graham Pryor at RDMF8 Formal application and adoption for Institutional Engagement from DCC Dedicated support from Sarah Jones and Monica Duke until February 2013

  5. Support from the DCC Institutional data catalogues Assess Needs Workflow assessment Pilot RDM tools Develop support and services DAF & CARDIO assessments DCC support team Guidance and training RDM policy development Advocacy with senior management Customised Data Management Plans Make the case

  6. Making the Policy RDM Project Manager a week after arriving! DCC policy briefing paper Reviewed existing policies & compiled draft Comments from DCC, Project Team members, School Research Leaders Adopted by Research & Knowledge Exchange Committee on 15 March 2012

  7. Comments on draft policy What research data is in/out of scope? What about paper-based research data? Who will report annually on the policy? What about PhD students? Participants rather than subjects Support rather than enforce Help with costing DM into proposals

  8. Planning for RDM service Consultation with Schools and Services on what is needed to comply with policy Support website over the summer Online survey, focus groups, DAF case studies and advocacy in autumn CARDIO assessment in autumn Requirements and indicative costs in spring

  9. Training all that TraD JISC-funded programme of DM training: Adapting existing resources in Psychology New material in Computer Science Workshop as part of Graduate School s Researcher Development Programme Online training for support staff esp. subject librarians June 2012 May 2013 with DCC support

DCC engagement is a dialogue Benefits to UEL Benefits to DCC Insight into post92 universities drivers Accelerated implementation of best practice In-depth interaction better impact Practical experience and real-world case studies Access to expertise and market intelligence Dedicated resource for training/capacity building Use of tools such as DAF, CARDIO, DMPonline Coaching
