1. LITERATURE CIRCLE Group Project By: Tyler Owens, Kaitlin Walashek, Wendy Hwang, Ashley Keating.

2. Rising action Plot Conflict- internal/external Lakshmi and Mumtaz didn t agree on one opinion. Mumtaz wanted Lakshmi for money but Lakshmi wanted to go home. Introduction-was it good? The introduction was interesting, it was a little slow to start but helped give more detail. Initiating incident The initiating incident is when Lakshmi's stepfather decides it's time to send Shortly after Lakshmi arrives to the city, she realises she won't be working as a maid, but in prostitution. Climax-were you surprised? The climax was when she gets drugged and she is forced to be with men. Falling action The American men finds Lakshmi and tells her that he ll be back, to take her to a clean place. Conclusion-how did everything wrap up? you like it? Did

3. Plot Diagram Sold by Patricia McCormick When Lakshmi gets drugged and is forced to be with men. Also when she sort of got used to what was happening. When the American man finds Lakshmi and promises he will come back to take her to a clean and happy place. 13-year-old Lakshmi thinks she is going to the city to work as a maid but the truth is that she was sold into prostitution. After she arrives at the Happiness house she realizes that she is not working as a maid. She is confused. The American comes back and Mumtaz is arrested. Lakshmi vs. Mumtaz/Happiness House

4. Theme I think the big message is that no matter what happens you have to stay positive and never give up on yourself. No matter who or what tries to bring her down, Lakshmi stays positive and pushes forward. There are lots of connections with this theme. Whether its school or your social life you always keep pushing forward no matter how hard your life gets, you just have to stay positive.

5. Character Lakshmi - 13-14, dark hair, brown eyes, dark skinned, slim. Before, Lakshmi was weak, scared, clueless and now she's confedient, compliant . Mumtaz- plump, mango faced, uncivil, short tem -pered.

6. Setting Small village in Nepal,the city, The happiness house, around the 1897, mood was kind ofdark, sad , sketchy,the atmosphere was gloumy The Happiness house a big part of the conflict, because i think itj wouldnt have madethe story as intresting and it setted the mood and the atmosphere.
