Facts Liam Whelan s real name is William Liam was born on April 1st 1935 He died on February 6th 1958 He was only 22 years of age
Family Liam was born in Cabra He was one of seven children He came from a really talented family Like his brother John, who played for Shamrock Rovers and Drumcondra F.C., he became a famous footballer He joined Manchester United in 1953 when he was just 18

Bridge Liam was so famous, a bridge was named after him The bridge is in Cabra and is close to Dalymount Park, where Liam played for Ireland The bridge was renamed The Liam Whelan Bridge in his honour in 2006
Plane crash While playing for Manchester United, tragedy struck . After a European Game against Belgrade, the plane crashed in Munich, Germany 23 people including Liam and 7 other players died
