  1. THE PRACTICE OF PRAISE Lesson 1019

  2. Memory verse I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well (Psalm 139:14) Text Psalms 134:1-3; 135:1-21; 136:1-26; 137:1-9; 138:1-8; 139:1-24

  3. Introduction Today s lesson focuses on the call, command, and commitment to praise the Lord Praise involves worshipping God, singing spiritual songs and hymns to His glory, giving testimonies about His mighty acts, etc. Everyone is enjoined to praise God (Revelation 5:13-14) The Psalmist in absolute submission to the Lord asked Him to examine and lead him in the ways of everlasting goodness and joy (Psalm 139:23-24).

  4. 1) Command to Praise the Lord Psalms 134:1-3; 135:1-26, 136:1-21; 1 Chronicles 9:33; Psalm 128:5-6; 1 Peter 2:5-9 The call and command to praise the Lord comes to all His saints, servants and those who fear Him (Psalm 135:20) Praise God daily by lifting up your hands, voices, and strengths to bless His name

  5. 1) Command to Praise the Lord (cont d) Psalms 134:1-3; 135:1-26, 136:1-21; 1 Chronicles 9:33; Psalm 128:5-6; 1 Peter 2:5-9 We should praise God because: -He created the heaven and the earth -His name is worthy of our praise -It is good and pleasant to praise God -He is great and high above all gods -He does mighty things for us -He shows wonders and judgments over the enemies of His people -He is merciful and compassionate in all His acts and actions -His memorials endure through all generations

  6. 2) Condemnation of Persecutors By the Lord Psalms 137:1-9; 2 Thessalonians 1:4-10; Ezekiel 39:23; Jeremiah 30:1-3; Ezekiel 25:12 Babylon and Edom were persecutors and enemies of the children of Israel, therefore, the Psalmist prayed for God s vengeance on them When God fights for His people, they will rejoice and be happy in the end The children of Israel were in captivity because they turned away from God and returned to sinful lifestyles Likewise when a believer backslides, he or she is exposed to satanic afflictions and oppressions (Hosea 8:3) The only way out is repentance and restoration through God s mercy and grace. Youth should also remember God, His word, and the place He put His great name

  7. 2) Condemnation of Persecutors By the Lord (cont d) Read Psalm 135:5-6 Forgetfulness leads to failure in academic endeavors and in life generally There is danger in forgetting God, His word, or the place He put His great name REMEMBER means Read always; Establish a goal to be achieved; Meditate on what you have studied; Exceed the target; Master the subject; Build on what you know; Epistle (write down) what you learn; and Review what you have studied

  8. 3) Consecration to Praise the Lord Psalms 138:1-8; 139:1-24 You need consecration, commitment, and grace to obey the Lord The greatest honour we can give to God is to accept, believe, and obey His word Your devotion to God will produce trust in Him and victory over your problems God knows the condition of our hearts and none can hide from Him God s word reveals the true state of the heart (Heb 4:12). This can lead to a great transformation and renewal We should allow the word of God to search our hearts, thoughts, motives, and actions No one can escape from His presence. He sees every thought, motive, and action The scripture does not permit a believer to hate anybody. Hatred is a sin Believers hate evil and wickedness Like the Psalmist, you should pray that God should search your heart today.
