Using the T+A+What+Why/How formula,
answer the following questions in your
notebooks:

Why is the princess described as
“semibarbaric” rather than barbaric or
civilized? In what ways does her
semi
barbaric
nature make her decision more difficult? What
choice do you think she made?

6

Exit slip: thesis writing

Write a thesis statement using our formula as if you were going
to answer the following question. You will turn this in! Put your
name on it.
Why does the author make the narrator of this story
directly address the reader at the end. What is the
effect of this technique on the reader? (What does it
make the reader do and why?)
