The family of God always has need of people who
are truly
faithful
(i.e., reliable, trustworthy, loyal)
Lack of faithfulness to God’s people can be seen in
several ways:
By forsaking the assembling of ourselves together
Hebrews 10:21-26
By jack of participation in the family life of the church
Neglecting opportunities to learn and grow together in
God’s Word
Leaving it to others to carry out the work of the church
Not concerned about the welfare of your brothers and
sisters in Christ

“Faith”
- (Pistis) - This Greek word means more in
this context than “belief or trust” as commonly
translated. Here it carries the idea of
“faithfulness.” Loyalty, integrity, and sincerity are
the hallmarks of this virtue, Luke 16:10.
Faithfulness to God means steadfast obedience,
Luke 12:42-48; Revelation 2:10. Fidelity means
one’s word can be depended upon; he will be true
to his promise and loyal to his task, whether as a
husband, friend or neighbor, 1 Corinthians 15:58.
He that is faithful in that which is
least is faithful also in much: and
he that is unjust in the least is
unjust also in much.
Fear none of those things which thou
shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast
some of you into prison, that ye may be
tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten
days: be thou faithful unto death, and I
will give thee a crown of life.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye
stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding
in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye
know that your labour is not in vain in
the Lord.

Luke 12:42-48

13

42
And the Lord said, Who then is that
faithful
 and wise steward, whom his
lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in
due season?
43
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
44
Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
45
But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and
shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to
be drunken;
46
The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him,
and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will
appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
47
And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself,
neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be
beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be
much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask
the more.

Conclusion

“But as God is
faithful
, our word to you was not Yes and No”
 (2 Cor. 1:18).
The fruit of the Spirit contains the attribute of
faithfulness
 (Gal. 5:22, 23).
T
here is a wide range of applications of this trait in the Scriptures, from
being

faithful
to God, to being reliable and trustworthy in one’s
character and treatment of others (Gal. 2:20; Titus 2:9-10). At the heart
of
faithfulness
is one’s reliability, trustworthiness and dependability.
God is faithful (1 Cor. 10:13). We can always depend on Him and His
word. The person who is

faithful
to God relies on Him, trusting His word
and following His directives. We are to always be
 faithful
toward others.
Paul was thankful for Philemon because he was hearing of his

“love and
faith
which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints”
(Philem. 4, 5). Spiritual maturity not only means we are reliable in
following the will of God, but by doing so, we are also trustworthy in
our dealings with others. Just as the Corinthians could trust Paul’s word
in today’s passage, our words must be

faithful
, reliable, trustworthy.
The integrity of
faith
defines the person who is led by the Spirit (Gal.
5:16-18; Heb. 11:6).

14
Alien sinners must…
Hear the Gospel – Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6
Believe it – John 8:24

Confess
that
Christ
is God’s Son
– Matthew 10:34

 sin – Acts 2:38
An erring child of God must…
Repent and Pray for Forgiveness – 1 John 1:7-9
Endure Trials -
“be faithful
unto
 death”
Revelation 2:10

Acts
2:38
