  1. The Firework Makers Daughter Monday 25thJanuary 2021

  2. As I read through Chapter 1, write down quotes about Lila. One example may be: When she was old enough, her father began to teach her the art of making fireworks. Inquisitive

  3. Task: Write a character description about Lila, using the quotes and what we know about her already. Think about the physical features what does she look like? Think about her personality how could you show what type of person she is?

  4. WAGOLL example. WAGOLL example. Lila s mother unfortunately passed away when she was a little girl, and she was brought up by her father Lalchand, who was a firework maker. From a very young age, Lila spent time in her father s workshop observing him at work and being mesmerised by the sparks and crackles of the fireworks. As time passed, she began to demonstrate her bravery by learning how to make simple fireworks under the guidance of her father. Many times, she would burn her little fingers, but with a splash of water and a kiss better from Lalchand, she was soon back to making these wonderous sights. As Lila grew older, she became more adventurous and often questioned her father of what if I do this? Her father encouraged her to experiment with different techniques and soon Lila was creating her own versions of fireworks and entering into pyrotechnical events. She began to believe she was a true firework maker but when she asked her father for clarification, he soon dashed her hopes. It became clear that Lila was not yet a firework maker and nor was she to become one. Her father had dreams of her becoming a wife and regretted not sending her to her Aunt Jembavati for a more refined upbringing, as Lila was quite often a sight. Her hair was often messy and her fingers were burned and stained with chemicals. Even her eyebrows were scorched. Her father was horrified that Lila may not present neatly enough to be married off. Yet, for Lila this was not an issue, for she had dreams of becoming the best firework maker in the world!
