  1. The Cold War Time of hostility, angry words, suspicion, and distrust between the United States and the Soviet Union

  2. The Red Scare The early 1900 s and Communism is spreading across Europe The united States is scared of a communist revolution taking over America Communist Revolutions are violent uprising where powerful leaders influence working class people to revolt against the system

  3. Communist Revolution Communist Revolutions in China and Russia (The Soviet Union) resulted in all private property being collected and 10 s of millions of people dead. It is possible over 100 Million people were killed (clear records were not kept, because that would reflect poorly on the government)

  4. There are many who think war with Russia is inevitable.. We promised the Europeans freedom. It would be worse than dishonorable not to see they have it. This might mean war with the Russians, but what of it? They have no Air Force anymore, their gasoline and ammunition supplies are low. I've seen their miserable supply trains; mostly wagons draw by beaten up old hoses or oxen. I'll say this; the Third Army alone with very little help and with damned few casualties, could lick what is left of the Russians in six weeks. You mark my words. Don't ever forget them. Someday we will have to fight them and it will take six years and cost us six million lives. - U.S. General George Patton

  5. America Learns 2 lessons from the end of World War 1 Economics If you let global economies stay in ruins after a war you wind up with Great Depression Military spending is a great way to keep economic activity going Enemies You have to completely defeat enemies or else you wind up fighting them again later So we destroy Germany and Japan

  6. The Marshall Plan It is agreed that Europe will be divided into East and West East will be Soviet (communist) West will be rebuilt by USA (free/democratic/capitalist) The USA will invest Billions of dollars in rebuilding what the war destroyed Seems crazy but this plan ensures continued production and consumption of goods and services And puts economic pressure on Communist nations to keep up

  7. How we will defeat this new Number 1 enemy of Communism Containment Also called the Truman Doctrine Fight to ensure that communism does not spread to other nations Marshall Plan Increase economic activity Use Industrial Power to weaken the Soviet/Communist power base

  8. Attitude of Cold War Summary We do not trust Communist countries and are directly opposed to their way of life We will not allow it to spread to new countries (Containment/Truman Doctrine) We plan on rebuilding Western Europe and Japan and use Economic advancement as our biggest weapon to defeat Communism We do not want to fight Russia(Soviet Union)
