THE AMBER TRUST
 
The Amber Trust is a small charity that supports the
music education of blind and partially sighted children
throughout the UK.
 
Our 
vision
 is for blind and partially sighted children,
including those with additional disabilities, to have the
best possible chance to meet their musical needs and
aspirations and fulfil their potential.

For blind and partially sighted children and their families,
 
which include resources and music sessions in the
 
child’s home aimed at involving the whole family.
 
MUSIC AWARDS
 
To support blind and partially sighted children and young people
– including those with additional disabilities – who wish to learn
an instrument or have vocal tuition, learn braille music, or need
funding towards an instrument
 
Range: from beginners to advanced musicians
 
The aim, wherever possible, is to form long-term relationships
with children, as they embark on a wide range of music-
educational journeys
 
Last year we supported 266 children across the UK
 
MUSIC AWARDS: HOW TO APPLY
 
Apply online at

Deadlines for applications are three times per year:
End of February
End of June
End of November
Those applying for the first time are usually awarded a term of
lessons, after which they must reapply.
Moving forward yearly reapplications are considered and awards
are usually given for three terms per year.
 
LITTLE AMBER
 
To support the families of blind and partially sighted children up to
the age of five, including those with additional disabilities, to engage
with their child through music
 
To develop the child’s musical skills, and to help parents use music
to support other areas of development including language and
socialisation, and to foster wellbeing
 
Families receive 8 hours of funded music sessions over the year
with a music practitioner, a bag of handheld percussion instruments,
and music activity cards
 
Support can be provided each year up to the age of five, we ask for
yearly feedback from the family and a practitioner report
 
AMBER PLUS
 
To support the families of blind and partially sighted children with
complex needs, aged 5–19, to engage with their son or daughter
through music
 
To develop the child’s musical skills, and to help parents use
music to support other areas of development including language
and socialisation, and to foster wellbeing
 
 
 
Families receive 8 hours of funded music sessions over the
year with a specially trained practitioner, instruments, and
music activity cards
 
Continuing support can be provided, we ask for yearly
feedback from the family and a practitioner report
 
WITH MUSIC IN MIND
 
 
To support the families of blind and partially sighted children with
 
neurodegenerative conditions such as Batten disease, to help
 
maximise their musical potential, and maintain musical skills for as
 
long as possible
 
To help parents use music to maintain other skills, including language,
movement and understanding, and to foster wellbeing
 
 
Two elements: Music Awards and (subsequently) monthly home visits by
specially trained practitioners
 
Free resources (activity cards and online music)
 
WORKSHOPS
 
To give blind and partially sighted children – including those with
additional disabilities – the opportunity to make music together
 
To assist the children in developing the wider social skills needed to
make music with others
 
 Applications are open to schools, community organisations, charities.
 
Funding is usually given for one to two terms.

AMBER SOUND TOUCH
 
To give music teachers seeking to work with blind children and young
people the confidence and inspiration to have a go themselves, and to
provide pedagogical strategies for working with young learners
 
To give teachers and others working through music with blind and partially
sighted children with complex needs the confidence to have a go
themselves, to introduce them to the Sounds of Intent model of musical
development, and to suggest a range of pedagogical strategies
