Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Careers Hub focuses on linking careers with the curriculum through innovative pilot programs and collaboration with schools and colleges in the local area. By addressing key areas of improvement, such as understanding math applications in real life, the Hub aims to help students increase their attainment and achieve higher grades. The initiative showcases successful impact with improved student performance and closer alignment between education and career goals.

  2. Our Hub Area Our Hub Area is the geographical locality of Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire. The Hub Area will be split into 4 main sub- groups to facilitate even closer collaboration between schools and colleges that share similar labour markets. To the North we have the boroughs of Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Moorlands, centrally we have Stoke-on-Trent, East Staffordshire forms part of triad with Tamworth & Lichfield, and last but by no means last are the areas of Stafford borough, Cannock & South Staffordshire.   4. Pilot with Seddon What s the problem? One of the key areas of improvement was for students was to actually read the question and fully understand what the question was asking Not understanding the need or purpose for particular topics What do you want to achieve? To help students have a greater understanding of how maths was utilised within everyday life using real life application What s the plan? Trainee QS to develop with the curriculum staff questions based on everyday scenarios to create a range of exam style questions and activity based questions to help students acknowledge how these key topics are applied to everyday life

  5. Pilot with Seddon THE SESSIONS Session 1 -Percentages Session 2 -Area and Volume Session 3 -Fractions and Percentages Session 4 -Re-cap of all three topics

  6. Impact 66% of the students increased their attainment, securing higher predicted grades 33% of these students achieved at least 1 grade higher than the first mock paper The remaining students moving closer towards the next grade boundary, for example a 4- to a 4+)

BM4 Role out in Stoke and Staffs Maths teacher William Johnson- Vaughan from Excel Academy: Our students often question the relevance and importance of some of the aspects of the Maths curriculum, however once they are able to see an organisation like Stoke City Football Club using it on a day to day basis, it helps them understand. Head of Community at Stoke City FC Adrian Hurst said: As an employer it can be quite fearful trying to think about how you can make the workplace more accessible and relevant to the curriculum, but by working alongside subject specific teachers, we have been able to develop a series of Stoke City related lesson plans that brings to life the reality of how some of the key maths skills are used in the workplace.
