The Green Cross Code
Crossing the road can be dangerous! The Green Cross Code will help you remember how to cross the road safely
First find a safe place to cross thumbnail 6908210659_b33c2a4acc_z thumbnail Always think about where you cross the road If a crossing is provided use it
First find a safe place to cross If there isn t a crossing, find a space without parked cars where you can see in both directions Make sure it is clear on the other side of the road
Stop! - Just before you get to the kerb stop-sign1
Look all around for traffic and listen listening Look All Around Listen as well because sometimes you hear traffic before you see it
If traffic is coming let it pass Then, look all around and listen again Wait until you are sure there is a big enough gap in the traffic for you to safely reach the other side
If traffic is coming let it pass Remember that even if traffic is a long way off, it could be approaching very quickly At 30mph it takes around 23 metres to stop a car That s almost the length of a swimming pool
When it is safe, go straight across the road Do not run Keep looking and listening for traffic Bikes and motorbikes are harder to see, so be extra careful Go straight across, not diagonally
Dont Get Distracted Concentrate on the road and make sure your friends do Never use a phone Take your headphones out Give the road your full attention
