Spring 2023 Tennis Court Proposal and Recommended Option
Spring 2023 brings forth three proposals for the tennis team: using Solanco High School courts for all matches and practices, playing away matches and practicing at local parks, or a mix of home matches at Solanco and practice at parks. The recommended option suggests playing all away matches and practicing at Paradise and Gap Parks to optimize financial resources, despite minimal home court advantage. Eric Burns, the previous coach, endorses this option. Additionally, a Track and Field Cooperative Agreement with Octorara is on the table.

Tennis Court Proposal SPRING 2023
Options for Tennis this Spring Proposal 1: Rent Solanco High School tennis courts for all home matches and practices Proposal 2: Play all away matches, and practice at Gap and Paradise Parks Proposal 3: Play home matches at Solanco and practice at Gap and Paradise Parks
Proposal 1: Use Solanco as Home Court Pros Cons One location for home matches and practices Most Expensive (estimated $8900 for rental & transportation) Courts are in better shape than both parks Travel Time (30 minutes one way) Enough courts to have a full varsity match and a team practice Late time getting back from practice
Proposal 2: All away matches and practice at local parks Pros Cons Best financial option to #3 (estimated $3700 for transportation) Gap Park courts are not in great condition Closest travel time for practices Would have to split up varsity and JV for practices
Proposal 3: Home matches at Solanco and practice at local parks Pros Cons Set location for home matches (Estimated $4000) Gap Park courts are not in great condition Less concern for travel time with practices Traveling to Solanco could potential be longer than playing all away matches. (Example LMH, LCDS)
Our Recommendation Play all away matches, and practice at Paradise and Gap Parks Not really a home court advantage in tennis Best financial option Solanco is 30 minutes away increased travel time for home matches and practices Athletes will be getting home late on practice days Recommended by Eric Burns (previous boys and girls tennis coach for the last 10 plus years.)
Track and Field Cooperative Agreement WITH OCTORARA
Request We are formally requesting approval to explore the possibility of a Track and Field Co-op with Octorara Any interested athletes at PV could compete in track and field at Octorara Grades 7-12 would be eligible We would like to survey learners
Rationale Offers another education-based athletic opportunity Boys Tennis, Baseball, Softball are our only spring sports JH athletes would have a school sponsored sport to participate in during the spring Currently we don t offer any JH sports in the spring Opportunity for off-season athletes to work on speed training Opportunity to help grow our XC team by having a similar spring option
Concerns Possibility of losing a few current spring athletes PV would be responsible for transportation to Octorara There wouldn t be a late bus Potentially have a volunteer coach from PV assist at Octorara
Procedure Obtain approval from PV and Octorara School Boards to explore co-op Send survey to PV Learners Are you interested in T&F? Do you currently play spring sports? What T&F events are you interested in? Obtain approval of the co-op by both school boards Apply to District 3/PIAA for permission Begin Co-op Spring 2023 Reevaluate after the 1st year
