Spiritual Warfare and Victory through Jesus

Foundations Course
Evening 8
Kingdom warfare (B)

Let’s first watch the teaching video Unit 4, from 14:20 minute

This week we look at how the Bible says to resist Satan

In the video the teacher uses
rhema
 word.
The Greek word Rhema is the spoken word.
The Greek word Logos is the written word.
There are several reasons why we don’t need to be afraid for the battle against Satan.

The Bible says:
The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the
beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work
(1 John 3:8).

Question 2: What is the devil’s work?
 (John 10:10)

The apostle John also said:
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in
you is greater than the one who is in the world
(1 John 4:4).

Question 1: What is one of the main reasons that God sent His Son?

Question 3: Who is the one who is in you?

Question 4:
Who is the one who is in the world?

Question 5: Was that a defeat of Christ or a victory? And why?

In Colossians chapter 2 we read:
13
When you were dead in your sins
and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with
Christ. He forgave us all our sins,
14
having canceled the charge of our
legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has
taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
15
And having disarmed the
powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them by the cross.
13

过来;

14

Question 6: What happened legally at the cross?
Is this most important event in human history offering justification to the believer?

JESUS’ VICTORY
The cross
breaks the power
of our fear of death
Notice what Hebrews 2 says about that
14
Since the children have flesh and blood,
H
e too
shared in their humanity so that by his death He might break the power of him who holds the
power of death—that is, the devil —
15
and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by
their fear of death.
14

Question 7. Try to explain the connection between Jesus becoming a “flesh and blood” human
being and breaking Satan’s "power of death”. How did this work? Does this free us from slavery?

Resist Satan’s plan in different situations

Question 8
What do we do with anger? Look at Ephesians 4
26
Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
27
and do not give the devil a foothold.
26
生气却不要犯罪;

How should we manage our anger?
God is a God of love, peace and truth.
Satan hates that; he wants us to live in sin and slavery.
Therefore, Jesus taught His disciples in John 8
31
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
32
Then you
will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

31
我的门徒;

32

Question 9: Explain how these things, Jesus said to do, can work in our personal lives.

James has a radical statement for us:
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you
 (James 4:7-8)
.

Question 10: When is the devil afraid for us and why?
Our battle against Satan: put on the armor of God
11
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the
devil’s schemes.
12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark
world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil
comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done
everything, to stand
(Ephesians 6:11-13).

Belt of truth (14)
Breastplate of righteousness (14)
Sandals (15)
Shield of faith (16)
Helmet of salvation (17)
Sword of the Spirit (17)

Question 12: What should we, soldiers in the army of the Lord
pray for (verses18-20)?

Difference between defeated and destroyed

Jesus defeated Satan’s power by dying on the cross for the remission of all our sins.
When Jesus resurrected from the death on the third day, He defeated and dethroned Satan, the
‘king’ of death in the kingdom of darkness.
We can say that Satan lost his destructive power but was not yet destroyed completely.

In the Revelation of Jesus, we read about the future.
At Jesus’ second advent to earth (Revelation 1:7) and the beginning of His Millennial Kingdom,
Satan will be thrown in a bottomless pit - the Abyss - and be bound
for a 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-3).

In the Judgment of Satan at the end of Jesus’ Millennial Kingdom is prophesied that Satan will finally
be thrown in the lake of fire and destroyed (Revelation 20:10).
After that, the redeemed will enter eternity.
Summary
We have seen different areas in which God has provided victory over Satan. We never have to fear him.
He was defeated by Christ on the cross. His only power comes when we choose to sin. But Christ’s blood
cleanses us from sin (1 John 1:9), and then we are again protected. Let’s keep alert in prayer and guard
our behavior and our lives will grow stronger and wiser!
