Soteriology: The Doctrine of Salvation
In Soteriology, the Doctrine of Salvation is explored through the belief in God's initiative in saving mankind, the necessity of grace and repentance for receiving salvation, and the transformative power of faith in Christ. This doctrine emphasizes the profound spiritual transition from death to life, the completeness found in Christ, and the continuous growth in spiritual blessings.

SOTERIOLOGY The Doctrine of Salvation
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC SALVATION We believe that due to the total depravity of mankind, it is necessary for God to take the initiative in salvation. Therefore, God has called out for Himself a people from before the foundation of the earth. God chooses those who will be saved, based upon His grace and mercy alone; not on the merits (or potential merits) of the individual. If the Father does not draw an individual to Christ, then that individual would never come to Him.
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC Cont. However, all that the Father draws (or elects) will inevitably come to Him (John 6:37,44; Romans 8:28-30; Romans 9; Ephesians 1:4- 6). And yet, the sovereign choosing of the Father in no way negates the free will of the individual (Romans 10:13).
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC Cont. We believe salvation is a gift of God, brought to the world by grace and received by the repentant sinner through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins (Ephesians 1:7 and 2:8-10; John 1:12; 1 Peter 1:18,19).
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC Cont. We believe that when an unsaved person exercises faith in Christ in the manner described in the New Testament, that person passes from spiritual death into spiritual life, and from the old creation into the new. Immediately upon being saved that one is justified from all sin and is accepted, loved as Christ is loved, having his/her portion and place as linked to Him and one with Him forever.
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC Cont. And though the saved one may have occasion to grow in the realization of personal blessings and to know a fuller measure of divine power through yielding of his/her life more fully to God, that one is, as soon as he/she is saved, in possession of every spiritual blessing and absolutely complete in Christ (John 5:24 and 17:23: Acts 13:39; Romans 5:1; 1 Corinthians 3:21; Colossians 2:10; 1 John 4:17 and 5:11,12).
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC Cont. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:37-40 and 10:27-30; Romans 5-11; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5).
From the Doctrinal Statement of SVC Cont. We believe that all true saints will ultimately persevere, that is, though they may sin grievously thus incurring the displeasure of God resulting in His discipline upon their lives, they will not completely apostatize, but will be kept through faith by the power of God (Hebrews 12:5-11).

ELECTION Scripture: Matthew 22:14 Acts 13:48 Ephesians 1:4 2 Thessalonians 2:13 Definition: That aspect of the eternal purpose of God whereby he certainly and eternally determines by means of unconditional and loving choice who will believe. This is not merely the intention of God to save all who may believe; rather, it determines who will believe.
OMNISCIENCE Scripture: Psalm 139:1-4 Isaiah 40:28 Romans 11:33 Hebrews 4:13 Definition: Relates to God s knowledge of all that is or could be. He has full knowledge of himself and all of his creation. He knows from eternity all that will occur for certain and also all that could occur.
FOREKNOWLEDGE Scripture: Acts 2:23 Romans 8:29; 11:2 Ephesians 1:5 Definition: The selective knowledge of God that makes one an object of God s love; it is more than mere knowledge or cognition beforehand. The term focuses on God s motivation to act, relating to persons rather than what the persons will or will not do.
FOREORDINATION Scripture: Ephesians 1:5 Definition: God s predetermination of all things that occur in his creation, both events and a person s actions. All things that happen external to God are determined by him and are certain.
PREDESTINATION Scripture: Romans 8:29-30 Definition: Differs from foreordination in that the former concerns the determination of all things, whereas predestination relates specifically to the determination of the elect and their conformity to the image of Christ. Predestination never occurs in the sense of one s being predestined to damnation.

SALVATION Scripture: John 3:16-17; 6:37 Acts 4:12 Definition: The culmination of election: the sum total of all God s work for man in delivering him from his lost condition in sin and presenting him in glory. It is received through faith, but faith is not a cause or reason for which God has justified the person. The cause of God s salvation is wholly in Himself not in man (Rom 9:12, 16)
REPROBATION Scripture: Isaiah 6:9-10 Romans 9:27; 11:7 Definition: God s passive attitude in passing over some people in tbhe bestowment of salvation. It is an expression of God s divine justice in condemning them to eternal punishment for sins.
