Updates to Diploma Requirements Credits Required for Regular Diploma: 24 Credits Required for Honors Diploma: 26 Credit Requirements pertain to ALL Classes (2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025) 6
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS What is a credential? A document that shows that a student has gained the experience or skill necessary for obtaining a job. What is a College and Career Readiness Indicator (CCRI)? Identifies students who are prepared for college or a career upon graduating high school. 8
EARNING A CREDENTIAL/CCRI CREDENTIALS Earned by taking a Career and Technical Education course (CTE) and passing the certification test at the end of the course. COMPLETER STATUS Successful completion (a grade of 70 or higher) of 3 CTE courses in a sequence COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS INDICATORS Benchmarking on the ACT Dual Enrollment (Academic and Technical) Enlisting in the United States Military ACT Work Keys Test 9
KUDER CAREER PORTFOLIO AND ALABAMA CIVICS TEST KUDER CAREER PORTFOLIO Complete Four-Year Plan (Grade 9) Complete Summary of Career Exploration (Grade 10) Complete Resume and Cover Letter (Grade 11) ALABAMA CIVICS TEST Taken during 12th Grade Taken at the end of US Government Students transferring in with a US Government credit must take the assessment. 10
Successfully pass the State of Alabamas Civics Test Seniors are required to take a Civics Test once they complete their required US Government course. Students must score a 60 or higher to pass the test. If a senior earns a failing score, an opportunity to re-test will be given. 11
APPLYING TO COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES 12
COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS College applications are completed on-line (unless the recruiter allows students to complete a paper application). The application fee must be paid by credit or debit card before the application will be processed. PLEASE KNOW THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS BEFORE APPLYING!! 13

SPECIAL APPLICATIONS The Common Application www.commonapp.org The Common Application for HBCUs www.commonblackcollegeapp.com Apply to multiple schools using one application. Apply to multiple HBCUs using one application. Must pay the application fee for each school you apply to. Pay one fee to process all applications. Cannot use application fee waivers. Application Fee waivers are acceptable pending the school s policies. No essay or recommendations needed for initial application. You must write an essay on a given topic. You must have teacher recommendations. You must have counselor recommendations. 15
Includes: 1) Completing the application 2) Requesting your official transcript via your Parchment account 3) Requesting your test scores from ACT THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS *Some schools may allow you to upload an unofficial copy of your transcript (Ms. Matthews can email this to you) *Some schools may allow you to upload your test scores directly from ACT know your ACT account information THE PROCESS IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL YOU HAVE SUBMITTED YOUR APPLICATION AND HAVE SENT YOUR TRANSCRIPT AND TEST SCORES 16
PROCEDURE FOR SENDING TRANSCRIPTS TO COLLEGES You must apply to the college FIRST Students will obtain their registration information for Parchment (from Ms. Matthews), which is the electronic service for requesting and sending transcripts Students will set up their Parchment account and request all transcripts needed Transcripts will be uploaded to Parchment by the registrar 18
PARCHMENT This service allows STUDENTS to log into THEIR Parchment account and electronically send transcripts to any college, university, or themselves. You must register and create an account in order to utilize this fast and efficient service. Students have received an email with their parchment registration code (in their student email), which had detailed instructions on how to complete the process (I have copies available in my office) Go to: parchment.com/register Students should use their personal email account as this service can be utilized after graduation Put in a safe place 19
PARCHMENT To order a transcript, you should follow these simple steps: Go to www.bakerhighschool.com Click on the Parchment icon Log into your Parchment account Click order transcript List the institution that will receive your transcript Click Save and Continue You will receive confirmation of service via email. There is no cost to send your transcriptand test scores. You will utilize this method for sending your final transcripts to your chosen college after graduation. 20
REQUESTING OF OFFICIAL TEST SCORES Official score reports must be sent through act. org Students should log into their ACT account and request score reports be sent to the colleges/universities they have applied to Ms. Matthews cannot send official test scores *Most schools will require test scores for scholarship awards 21
College application fee waivers are provided to students who financially qualify for free lunch. Fee waivers can ONLY be used at colleges that accept them. IT IS THE COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY S DECISION TO ACCEPT WAIVERS; BAKER HIGH SCHOOL HAS NO AUTONOMY IN THAT AREA!! REQUEST FOR COLLEGE APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS The waivers have to be signed and submitted by Ms. Matthews unless otherwise specified by the college/university The waivers can be obtained in Ms. Matthews office during your lunch wave. Before requesting a waiver, you MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION!! Be sure to save the application before you exit out of the account. 22
COLLEGE RECRUITMENT VISITS Passes/notifications via Schoology will be sent to all seniors about college visits; students will only receive passes/notifications to visits for schools which they meet the admission requirements Listings of invited students will be sent via Schoology and emailed to advisors prior to the visit *Students may update their test scores in order to ensure college visit invitations 23

ACT REGISTRATION AND FEE WAIVERS ACT Registration MUST be done on-line!!! The registration site is www.act.org/student www.act.org/student All seniors are entitled to FOUR fee waivers per year. Waivers may be picked up from Ms. Matthews before or after school or during your lunch wave Waivers are valid for a full year 25
ACT NATIONAL TEST DATES FOR 2022-23 Sept. 10 Oct. 22 Dec. 10 Feb. 11 Please be mindful that ACT Waivers will cover LATE FEES but not STAND BY FEES (stand by fees will be applied if there are multiple students awaiting to take the test in a certain location SO REGISTER EARLY) Apr 15 Jun 10 July 15 26
COLLEGE VISITS Seniors are encouraged to visit potential schools they are considering attending next year Seniors should get an excused absence form from Ms. Matthews and have it signed by all teachers, prior to the visit Seniors should take the excused absence form with them to the visiting college/university and have an admissions representative sign the form at the conclusion of the visit Seniors should return the form to the attendance clerk, Mrs. Reed, to excuse the absence 27
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Students must request the letter at least ten (10) days before it is due! Must complete the Request for Recommendation Form (located in Ms. Matthews office) You must submit a completed BHS SENIOR QUESTIONNAIRE (Submit electronically found in the Counselor Recommendations folder on the Guidance Schoology Page) 28
