  7. Medium term plan

  8. Medium-Term Plan Medium term = safety standards that will be issued after 2026/2027 Work is still within the current long-term plan that was established in 2008 From a strategic point of view, it continues to implement the vision and strategies from the SPESS A document (Strategies and Processes for the Establishment of Safety Standards) Three sets of inputs into medium term plan: Review of safety standards issued before 2013, possibly to be revised Need for new guidance (not necessarily as new Safety Guides) New proposals received in July 2022 from individual Member States Document also contains an Appendix of ongoing work, which will take up to 2026/2027 to complete (this refers back to the Gantt Chart) 8

  9. Medium-Term Plan A significant number of proposals made in earlier versions of the draft medium term plan were already initiated, like indicated by the DPPs for DS532 to DS550, i.e. 19 initial proposals, listed in the appendix of the document. Thus, the updated medium term plan list the remaining proposal: EPReSC: Planning, review and revision of GSR Part 7 on Preparedness and Response for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency NUSSC has at least identified the following: New SG on safety assessment of nuclear installations in relation to external event scenarios New SG on development and application of level 3 probabilistic safety assessment 9

  10. Medium-Term Plan RASSC: Revision of IAEA Safety Series No. 1 on Safe Handling of Radionuclides (updated version in 1973) Revision of SSG-19 National Strategy for Regaining Control over Orphan Sources and Improving Control over Vulnerable Sources Revision of RS-G-1.9 Categorization of Radioactive Sources TRANSSC: Revision of SSG-26 (Rev. 1) Advisory Material for the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material Revision of SSG-33 (Rev. 1) Schedules of Provisions of the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material Review/Revision of SSG-66 Format and Content of the Package Design Safety Report for the Transport of Radioactive Material 10

  11. Medium-Term Plan WASSC: Revision of SSR-5 Disposal of Radioactive Waste Revision of WS-G-5.2 Safety Assessment for the Decommissioning of Facilities Using Radioactive Material Revision of GSG-1 Classification of Radioactive Waste Revision of SSG-14 Geological Disposal Facilities for Radioactive Waste Revision of SSG-29 Near Surface Disposal Facilities for Radioactive Waste Revision of SSG-23 The Safety Case and Safety Assessment for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste 11

  12. Concept paper for the preparation of the long term plan

  13. Concept for the preparation of the Long-Term Plan This is not the long-term plan but the basis to prepare it. From a strategic point of view, it continues to implement the vision and strategies from the SPESS A document (Strategies and Processes for the Establishment of Safety Standards) Categorization/hierarchy of the safety standards (Fundamentals, Requirements, Guides) Structure of the Safety Requirements: GSRs complemented by SSRs Safety Requirements with overarching requirements for user-friendliness and facilitating the guides-requirements relationship 13

  14. Concept for the preparation of the Long-Term Plan Structure of the Safety Guides and Criteria for optimization of the set of guides Content to be addressed in the future collection of safety standards (through questionnaires and e-working groups of the Committees) and use of NSS-OUI for feedback collection on the existing set of publications Planning approach: top-down, coordination for concomitant revision and prioritization 14

  15. With the expectation on the content and application of the structural and optimization criteria we ll then build the next wheel And with the prioritization process we ll describe how to get there 15
