  1. M103.01 Identify Responsibilities of a Follower in a Team FSgtZeng

  2. 1.Introduction Overview of what a follower is and what makes a good one

  3. 3 Importance Purpose of a team is to work together to complete a task more efficiently Ineffective team members will slow the team, so each team member must know how to act appropriately Lots of aspects of cadets involve being in a team setting, including; teams you attend, the Flight you are in, and groups you are assigned for events (like syndicates for FTXs).

  4. 2.Responsibilities Explanation of good traits a follower should have

  5. 5 Respect Meaning: Treating other members and the leader in a positive, pleasant manner. Accepting the differences of others. Significance: Creates a comfortable atmosphere for the team to work in, and allows members to get along with each other.

  6. 6 Scenario Imagine . Cadet Bloggins is working with other cadets to make a paper airplane. He is being rude to the rest of the members, complaining about how they can t fold and cut paper neatly. Rude statements will not benefit the team. Other members become uncomfortable working with Cadet Bloggins.... CHAOS ENSUES Instead . Speak kindly and offer suggestions to get your thoughts across. ( Try this folding technique instead ) Note: Cadet Bloggins is a fictional character, any resemblance to any real cadets is purely coincidental

  7. 7 Cooperate Meaning: Working together with team members to achieve the common goal. Significance: With no cooperation, the team becomes inefficient at working. If members within a team are doing their own things, then the purpose of having a team is defeated.

  8. 8 Scenario Imagine . Cadet Bloggins is learning how to march with the rest of his flight. Everyone is calling out timings at the same cadence to stay together. Cadet Bloggins refuses and calls his own, slower cadence. Being different isn t always a good thing! Other members in the flight becomes confused at Cadet Bloggins different cadence and their timings + actions gets thrown off. Instead . Think of ways to be unique that will benefit the team, not hinder it. (Call out the correct timings really loud for the whole flight). CHAOS ENSUES

  9. 9 Admit Mistakes Meaning: Acknowledge whenever you mess up. It is fine to mess up, learn from them so the you may improve and not repeat the same error. Significance: Team members must always seek improvement. People can not learn from a mistakes if they refuse to believe they made one in the first place.

  10. 10 Scenario Imagine .. Cadet Bloggins learns a new drill movement incorrectly. However, he does not believe he is wrong and continues to do the movement his way. Even if you have a tiny bit of doubt ask! Seek out someone with more experience. After a while, the movement becomes a habit, it becomes really difficult for him to fix it. CHAOS ENSUES Instead Use effort to fix problems as soon as they are presented to you. It will only become harder to fix them later on.

  11. 11 Assume Responsibility Meaning: Whenever you are given a task by the leader, complete the task with all your effort. Always remember your name and identity, it is who you are. Good work reflects off of your name, and you should take pride in your work and name. Significance: Leaders could give out tasks to help team members gain experience, or to help the team reach its goal more efficiently. Messing up the task due to the member s lack of effort will hinder the team s progress.

  12. 12 Scenario Imagine . Cadet Bloggins is working with a team to make a giant paper m ch airplane. Bloggins has been assigned to work on the fuselage (body of plane). He does the task half-heartedly. The moment your attention wonders, mistakes will be made. Cadet Bloggins lack of focus resulted in him using far too much glue, making the entire model very soggy. When the other parts of the plane was attached to the fuselage, the model completely falls apart. Keep in mind that all tasks, no matter how small, is important to the team. CHAOS ENSUES

  13. 13 Be Prepared Meaning: Know the goal your team is trying to achieve. Study all prerequisite knowledge needed, so that you may be ready for any situations that pop up. Significance: Being ready at all times will make problem solving easier, and delegation of tasks will be smooth.

  14. 14 Scenario Imagine Cadet Bloggins is working with a group to teach a drill movement to a flight. The leader asks Bloggins to take a few cadets out for extra help. However, Cadet Bloggins didn t study the movement beforehand and doesn t know how to teach. Everyone else is busy, so the leader needs to think of a new plan. CHAOS ENSUES Instead . Always create a plan when doing a task, that way you will know what you need beforehand.

  15. 15 Communicate Clearly Meaning: Listen to instructions carefully, and ensure you pass on all relevant information correctly Significance: Team members must be on the same page in order to work together. Without clear communication, confusion will spread.

  16. 16 Scenario Imagine There is a meeting happening for Cadet Bloggins flight. Cadet Bloggins has been instructed to pass on the time and place of the meeting to other cadets. Example of how important it is for clear communication. Unnecessary problems will be avoided Cadet Bloggins forgets to do so, nobody shows up, and the meeting is delayed in order to track down the cadets. CHAOS ENSUES
