Realm of the Garden Matt. 5:21-48
Owned vs. Borrowed Job 1:21
Job 1:21 Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
Blessings are lent to us by God. They are not ours to possess and use as we wish. We give him credit for all we have and remain dependent on him knowing that at any time he could pass on what we have to someone else.
Earned vs. Gifted Matt. 7:11; James 1:17; 1 Cor. 12:4-6
1 Cor. 12:4-6 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
Blessings are gifted to us by God out of his great love. We have done nothing to earn or deserve them and never take them for granted. We keep in mind what life would be like without them and constantly express gratitude to God for his abundant gifts.
Used vs. Shared Matt. 10:8; Acts 20:35 1 Cor. 1:3-4
2 Cor. 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Blessings are always meant to be shared. Blessings which are hoarded and only used for the receiver s enjoyment will quickly fade away. But, those who generously share the blessings received will find them continually replenished.
Pathway of Fasting Psalms 35:13; Matt. 4:4, 6:16-34; 1 Cor. 9:27
Fasting should really be made to include abstinence from anything which is legitimate in and of itself for the sake of some special spiritual purpose. (Martyn Lloyd-Jones)
Pathway of Simplicity Psalm 62:10; Matt. 6:19; Luke 16:13; 1 Cor. 6:12
1 Cor. 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything.
