Finish Set Up The finish must be planned prior to the event, a couple of club members need to know the layout and position of items. The finish straight must be as long as possible (100m). For a manual timed finish the width should be about 3 - 4m wide. For an electronic timed finish you can go for about 8m wide. The finish line should be white and approx. 50mm wide If an arch is used it should be place about two meters after the finish line to ensure runners keep on moving. There must be a table plus two chairs (three if possible) per lane for the time keepers, the centre line of the table should pass through the centre of the table. The time keepers should have an unobstructed view up the finish straight. Refreshments should be as far as possible from the finish line (100m) to stop any build up of runners.

Split Finish If there is a field of approx. 2500 to 3500 athletes for a 10km it is recommended that a split finish is used to get better times and to make sure there is no build up on the finish line. For greater distances the amounts of runners that this system can take may also increase. The split we have been using are male and female as it is the most practical. If someone goes down the wrong chute, they are timed in that chute and must given a sachet in that chute. The chute times are combined to produce a full set of results. The split should take place approx. 50 m from the finish line. A person or two must be in place to split the runners. Signage or markings should be put up to assist the runners.

Finish Officials WPA Finish Officials WPA officials on the finish line comprise 2 time keepers per lane, 2 referees and a results official. It is important to know that the time keepers write the sex, club, age category of runners where possible to sort out if there are any queries as well as completing information if runners fail to hand in their sachets. The timekeepers must sit on the line as accurate times are required especially for records. Club officials 1 or 2 people at the split. 2 people per lane to hand out sachets; these people need to move up and down in the tunnel depending on the number of finishers. They do not stand and wait for runners to come to them. 2 people per lane to keep the runners in order. Medal personnel
After the Finish Line The runners must receive their sachet in the same order as they cross the line. The medals should only be handed out approx. 70m away, just before the refreshments. Any race fliers etc. should only be handed out after refreshments. The results boards and boxes for extra sachets should be place after coke in an area that is demarcated and visible to all runners. There should be one or two people to assist the runners.

Results and Prize Giving It is the referee s job to hand over the finalised results to the Club for prize giving. These results are normally completed prior to the cut-off, but it does happen that there is a delay due to waiting for certain age categories to finish. (Please make sure the announcer does not keep asking for the results). The prize giving can start prior to the cut-off as long as the lucky draw only takes place after cut-off. There is no reason why the complete prize giving (category winners and lucky draws) should take longer than 30min. If this happens more people will stay. Have a few main prizes, give smaller prizes as handouts.
