  2. What are NGOs? NGOs are private, nonprofit organizations that operate independently of government control. They address social, environmental, and humanitarian issues and work towards achieving specific missions. NGOs advocate for change, provide services, build capacity, monitor accountability, and innovate in their approaches. Engaging visuals representing NGOs in action.

  3. Why are NGOs important? NGOs are important because they: respond to crises, engage with communities, raise awareness, advocate for policy changes, pioneer innovative solutions, collaborate with various stakeholders, they complement government efforts, promote social justice, contribute to sustainable development.

Focus Areas of NGOs NGOs in Latvia work in various sectors, including: Human Rights: Latvian Human Rights Committee (Latvijas Cilv kties bu komisija): Works to promote and protect human rights in Latvia, addressing issues of discrimination, equality, and minority rights. Centre for Public Policy PROVIDUS: Focuses on policy research and advocacy for human rights, rule of law, and good governance.

  5. Healthcare: Latvian Red Cross (Latvijas Sarkanais Krusts): Provides healthcare services, disaster management, and social support to vulnerable individuals and communities.
