The Marinforsk Programme-four areas Marine ecosystems will increase understanding of the structure and function of and change in these ecosystems to facilitate long-term, sustainable management of Norway s marine areas. Pollution and other effects on ecosystems will generate knowledge about the extent and effects of pollution and other anthropogenic factors on the marine environment. Sustainable harvesting and value creation will expand the knowledge base for ecosystem-based fisheries management and sustainable value creation based on the harvesting of marine resources. Management and societal perspectives will address the challenges facing national and international coastal and marine management regimes as a result of climatic and population change processes.
